A great way into Cruise Control

Last week whilst we were away in France Steve ( SR Hutch ) fitted Cruise control using one of his bespoke looms to my car, it’s something I use on my DD frequently and would look for this as a must have on any future car I get.

Historically retro fitting CC to an ///M was a very specialised job, I looked into having it fitted years ago with a Company in the N/E who wanted over £250 iirc, I’m not the handiest of people car wise so I was on hand with coffee’s whilst Steve, Stu and Ed ( he held one wire but contributed non the less :) ) got stuck in and did a perfect job with the instilation, in under an hour, it works perfectly

It’s a no brainer mod for me if you don’t have it fitted to your ///M, get Intouch with Steve, he sends out all the fitting instructions and I’m sure would assist where he can technically too, it will not only be of benefit to you but could make the difference to someone looking to buy in the future :driving:

Thanks Steve et ‘al

This is a great mod for anyone who drives their Zed long distances.
Retro-fitting to non Ms isn't anything new, but as Darren says fitting to Ms isn't straightforward. I saw Steve's handmade looms at Zedfest - a great solution for what was previously a very tricky retro-fit

I'd be interested in having this done. Where is Steve based?

Or is there any other members in the NW who know what they are doing with this? I personally wouldn't have the confidence to tackle it alone without any pretty detailed instructions.

Same here!

I'd be interested in having it fitted to my 3.0Si (my M already has it) but I know I'd screw it up if I attempted it myself.

Steve talked me through how to do it and his loom makes it easy. You just need to take your time when cutting the cowl with a dremel so you get a nice fit with the stalk. The outline is marked on the inside of the cowl already👍🏻

I think for a non ///M it’s only a matter of removing the cowl, drilling a hole and plugging in the CC to the connector that’s already there?

I’m sure someone will confirm

Steve’s in the South East, others who have retro fitted one of his looms can confirm about the instructions, I was fortunate to have Steve do it

Considering I can break an iron ball, I will not be drilling holes in my own car. If there is someone local who knows what they are doing I would defo give them some beer tokens.

Apparently it was only the pre-facelift cars but not facelift cars.

Just to add - one of the big advantages of pre-facelift Zeds is the fact that they are (usually) pre-wired with looms so cruise, MFSW and heated electric seats will plug and play, which makes retro-fitting so much simpler. I found out the hard way fitting M Sport seats into my 2008 si.

If you’re ever passing near to me, next to Chatsworth in the Peak District, I’ll cut it for you Harvard. Or if you pop down to the Hassop brekkie meet in early December I’ll do it then.

Alternatively if you want to unscrew the cowl and post it I’ll do it that way.

Actually if Steve pops me a loom I’ll fit the whole shebang for a donation to the forum.

Production date around Oct 04 was the cut off for cars fitted with CC looms iirc.

As Daz said I’m in the south east, but it’s not a hard job for an indi or fellow forumite to be able to help with.

Hello everyone,

I’m new to the forum and about to buy a Z4MC :)
I’m interested in retrofitting a cruise control...guess I will have to get the stalk and the loom (I understand one of the members - Dan? - has built a loom). Do I need to get the steering column cowl as well?

Of course any instructions on how to do the job are greatly appreciated (I live in Dublin and the South East where Dan lives is a bit too far)

Thanks in advance!

I may take you up on that. I need to get the stalk for the column as well. Where do you get this from...BMW?

One of the big things my car is missing is CC

Sopers is the dealer of choice as you ‘may’ get a small discount if you mention the forum. Ring them and they’ll get you the stalk Harvard. If you PM SRHutch he’ll sort you a cable out I’m sure.

Much earlier than I thought - wonder if thats the same for the other looms?

Welcome aboard

Post some pics up when you get your car when you get it and do a little introduction, be nice to see :driving:

If you pm Steve, srhutch, he’ll fill you in on the why’s and wherefores, you don’t need the cowl, you just drill the hole, there’s an imprint on the inside of the cowl to help you,
