A Funny Buzzing ... and the MOT

She still drives fine, no warning lights, just this funny buzz at this rev range in all gears [which is a pita as that equates to 10/20/30 in 1st/2nd/3rd gear so I keep hearing it ]

Any [cheap ] ideas?

She's in the dealer [Cheltenham] on Tuesday for her MOT [wish me luck  ], I wonder if they will notice it and comment.

In the meanwhile, anyone else know of this?

Thanks.

Mine does the same. Sounds like something plastic buzzing from the engine bay. I can only hear it with the roof or window down.

Phew, I thought it was only me - I can hear mine mainly with windows and hood up.

Good luck with the MOT.

Good News - she passed  ... with NO Advisories :o

Only thing that need to be done was a replacement n/s front anti-roll bar linkage. This had been a MOT advisory in 2013 & 2014, and was spotted by the dealer in March 2015 when she had her Insp2. They gave me a quote then, which they honoured today [I did check they would ].

So cost was - look away now if you're of a nervous disposition

MOT - £27.00 - vat exempt
Parts/Labour/Vat - £59.24
Total - £86.24 - bargain.

and they chucked a bucket of water over her, so drove her home a very happy bunny - hood down of course :driving:

Still got the buzz :(
.... STILL got the buzz :x ....

So she is booked into Cotswold tomorrow AM for investigation.

Wish me luck that's it's something simple [and cheap]

It's hard to touch wood with all my digits crossed :(

My Bmw indy has said the manifold gasket can vibrate and might need slightly bending. Ask them to check that.

Exhaust shield,disa valve,vanos ???

Good Call

Cotswold had arranged for one of their Technical Supervisors to have a listen, so this morning he did, and he is almost certain it is the disa valve.

There is "chattering" all the time, and worsens on increased revs, and it appears to be coming from that.

So one is on order, back tomorrow morning for fitting, and then I'll report back.

p.s. part is £170 plus [+vat] , but labour is only 25 mins :) , so I'll sit and wait, read their papers, and drink their coffee.

And he was right

New DISA Valve fitted, noise now gone.

Techie (Andy) showed me the old one and it was fcuked :( bearing gone, rattling around all over the place, not closing properly, liable to start falling apart .......

So, now she should be like a new car :driving:

Slightly better than full engine rebuild if it had fallen into the intake manifold though eh? :P
Oh yes, Much cheaper than that. :)

When I saw the broken part I was relieved I had caught it - there wasn't much time left.

Even though the moveable 'flap' is only plastic it still could have made a mess down there :o
