A few roof problems

I have been reading all the roof threads but I thought I would start my own as I think the problems I am having might be slightly unique.

I have an 2004 3.0.

I currently have 2 problems with my roof.

1. When I come to open it, it unlatches from the windscreen and moves an inch or 2 and then gets stuck. If I hold the button long enough it does eventually go but its obviously not right. If I give it a little nudge then it goes fine. I'm going to try putting some PFTE spray in the hinges to see if this makes a difference. What is a little puzzling is that the roof closes at normal speed without a problem which would tell me the motor is okay?

2. Once it folds down (in the open position) it doesn't latch at the back. The problem is, even if you push it down the roof won't go down far enough to reach the latch. I have tried my best to make sure that the roof is folding correctly but have had no success.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well today after lubricating the hinges I actually got the roof to latch down at the back when it was fully open. I needed to use quite a bit of force but it went. This is an improvement on yesterday where it wouldn't go even with force. This isn't worrying me as much now as I think it will improve over time.

However, I still have this problem where the roof stalls when I try and open it.

I too am having a very similar issue...I have a 2004 Z4 3.0i as well, and just this past week started having problems with my roof. When you press the button to lower, my windows go down, it unlatches from the windshield, and then does nothing. I am hoping this is something simple and not the motor, as I am beyond warranty and the motor sounds like an expensive proposition and not something you can DIY...Thoughts anyone?

For the "unlatch and then nothing" problem for the roof, take a look at this thread --> http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8201. It seems like the motor has drowned....

i had thesame problem and the fix for the roof all the way down is to put ur roof up halfway and help the material roof to fold properly. after a couple of times the problem will be fixed. The reason to do this is because the edges crease on top of each other increasing the height of the fold when the roof is folded down. with the roof stopping halfway, i have NO idea. i wold check the wiring in the well when the roof is fully closed. its the one with the white clips
