A guy I know has a Z....but of a different kind, the 06 kind, I went and had a blast on Sat, some pics below and also the report I sent to a couple of mates.
Just thought I'd share with you guys.
Ah yes the Z06, is smaller than you might think, its wide but other dimensions are fairly compact, only 1400kg after all. Seats need better bolsters, interior is not too bad but obv not quite modern European standards, however the car does feel well made and solid, rattles a lot less than the 911T.
Obv its quite a head turner, feels a bit weird being in the right seat but not driving. Interior is roomy enough but not exactly spacious, the noise inside is actually fairly quiet, VERY quiet with the exhaust vales shut, fair bit of road noise though, having 275 fronts and 330 (I think) rears probably doesn’t help that.
Could defo do with being a tad louder inside, however I’m sure outside it sounds utterly fantastic.
The thing has serious torque, 400lb ft from 2000rpm I believe, 500 at the thicker end, so along with 505bhp the performance is 'reasonable'.
It doesn’t actually feel that fast due to the long gearing, 60 in 1st, 90 in 2nd etc, its more the speed at which you approach cars in the distance than the outright shove in the back you get. Feels planted and grippy, power is very smooth, slightly step up as the revs build but it’s a linear delivery, unlike the ‘bomb’ that was the 911 turbo’s delivery. I liked them before and I still do, very nice car, cheap to run (except the tyres) and very different, plenty of character yet very useable really. 90mph in 6th is 2000rpm, so fuel economy on a run is actually pretty good, well good for a 7 litre anyway.
As ridiculous as it sounds, I’d like to see what it’s like with another 150bhp, maybe he should have bought a ZR1, the supercharged version of the Z06.
For some reason the Z4 didn’t feel like a milk float on the drive back home, as I say I think it’s the gearing, deceptively fast.
Anyway bang for buck its great, I genuinely think we would find a 360, Aston V8 etc slow now, they don’t move the speed game on to the next level enough from say a from a M3/911 etc where as the Vette is defo in another league or 2.
