Had a run in to Wales today to explore the Elan Valley and the Evo triangle.
It was great even if it did mean 9 hours behind the wheel and a dark drive along the A5 back home

Saving a few pictures for next months competition.
If anybody is interested I can post the best roads to go on and where the Evo guys went for last months Car of the Year testing.

great pics- cant beleave you have had 5 views and no comments- looks like a great drive- thanks for the pics.

Fantastic Pics :D

I went with a couple of mates, motobiking up in the Elan Valley last year, fantastic roads

I used to live in Kington, so I used to visit Rhayader a lot, but as I know live in Kent I dont get to enjoy routes like that,

I love that part of the world. Do a lot of my off roading from there South

You must give me a shout next time you do that run. I live 1/2 mile off the A5 and we can take a pair of Sterling greys for a spin

It's a date.
I will probably take another look in April

Nice pic's, can't wait for spring time so I can get the summer tyres on and take the car for a real spin!

Planning on doing the EVO triangle for Easter, any input on roads are appreciated. My biggest concern is that I'll forget to drive on the wrong (left) side of the road on smaller roads without proper signs :?

Don't worry about that. A tractor pulling out on the right is a good aide memoire for future times..if you live!!!
Actually it's far less a problem that you would envisage. I have both LHD and RHD vehicles and use them in both the UK and Europe, so you soon adjust to any combination. The crunch point is always when returning onto tarmac from off road to remember which side to turn and join.

Haha, I've driven rental cars in Scotland (320is), Australia and ZA, without any problems. Not so sure about a LHD car in England though, but that tractor of yours should teach me a lesson. I just hope I meet a tractor and not one of the forum members pushing their Z :)

I drove on Silverstone last year, but I guess that doesn't count for much - not much oncoming traffic! :driving:

The evo triangle was a great bit of fast windy road. It was a little too wet and dark by the time I got there however.
I had been planning to go on the "Horseshoe Pass" (A542) also but it was too dark, will save that for next time.

We started out in Elan village next to the Caban-coch Reservoir dam. This was mainly because evo magazine used it for this years Car of the Year. It is amasing.
I then followed the road North to Craig Goch Dam.
This road I think is called the Mountain Road to Aberystwyth. This was the best bit of road of the whol day. Long and tight bends with good visability so you can really go for it (TC off :D ).Follow the Mountain Road West past Cwmystwyth quarries (which would be great for some pictures) all the way to Devils Bridge and then the village of Devils Gate.

At this point I got a bit lost and went down some crap tight farm roads but if I were to do it again I would head for Aberystwyth.
From Aberystwyth take the A roads up to the A458. Then follow it to the B4395, drive the B4395 South to North and then take the B4393 West.

The B4396 heading North East, The B4391 North West towards Bala.
Take the A4212 at this stage North West past Llyn Celyn reservoir. Then take the B4407 up to the A5 and the long awaited Evo Triangle.

There was one other amasing road that swept around a mountain but I can't remember which one it was.

Basically I just looked on Google Earth for some good roads and also looked on Pistonheads for advice:

Hope this helps with the planning and I am keen to hear anybody elses suggestions :driving:

Nice

what is it with you English (Welsh) and waterfalls? Seems like you can't get enough of them! :) I'd prefer a windy road over a waterfall any day! :driving:

It's called "The Persistence of Vision." I was reading the latest Evo (we get it later than you guys, remember) and though I've never been to Wales, I recognized one place in their CoTY photo shoot:

Sometimes it's just too damp to have any fun - I was spinning up the rears in 3rd gear yesterday and that was in the dry. The DSC was having a fit.
