A day at the Nurburgring... some pics

Last week we visited the Nurburgring. A group of about 15 Z4's and Z3's, took off for a sunny day to one of the world's most demanding race tracks. With it being approx 350km's away, it makes a great day trip. The Eiffel area surrounding the Nurburgring is fascinating and pretty demanding, offering awesome steering.

out of interest how do you guys get one for insurance over there? i'm involved in a ring insurance thread on another forum, its a awful grey area in the UK unfortunately :(

love that place though, looking for to taking the M next year when i do my euro tour with the wife!

a few of us checked, but it appears that German traffic laws state that the Nordschleife is an official toll road (hence the EUR21,- per lap :wink: ) and not a race track. To a certain extent, traffic laws do 'apply' and with German Autobahn non-existent speed limits, it all fits together quite nicely. 8) Maybe anyone could confirm?

For Dutch insurers, the rule of thumb is that insurance is void when driving on a race track. I guess it is the same in the UK. The grey area, I fully understand.. imagine having to claim damages occured during a NS-lap :cry:

Regardless i just love how the Z looks on the road, low and aggressive!

I need to plan a trip to the ring for my dads 60th in december. Any tips or recommendations on where to go stay etc? Looks like so much fun!!

Officially the Nordschleife is a one way toll-road without speedlimits. So it's a public road with normal traffic rules (so only take over from the left). The insurence has to pay in theory, most of them try to become underneath. Or they noted the Nordschleife as an exception in the conditions.

I've driven some laps on the NS but mostly on mondays, not so crowded and so on. So we go on a sunday, then we look at the cars and beside the track, and at monday we drive some laps.

There's tons of places to stay. I'd recommend these two:
check http://www.hotel-nuerburgring.eu/ its basic but run by friendly ppl, car is safe, service is excellent 8)
alternatively, check http://www.hotel-haus-sonneck.de/

And have a meal here http://www.restaurant-paddock.de/, great atmosphere
