A curious 108 situation

Hi everyone,

I've been reading the forum for some time now and rarely post but I've now a situation that requires some expert advice, so I'm hoping you maybe able to help!

My Zed has gone in to a main dealer for its Inspection 1 today, whilst it was there, I've asked the bodyshop to take a look at some minor scratches and to give me a quote on a refurb of my 108's. All four could do with a spruce up, there's some minor curbing on all four (no major corrosion).

To my surprise, they have come back and said they wont touch them. Basically they are saying that two of my rims are polished and lacquered (as I believe they should be) and two of them are painted and lacquered. I bought the zed as an approved used from this dealer over 2 years ago now, so I can only imagine that the two painted wheels were the result of a refurb done as part of the sale preparation.

The guy said that the painted ones need to be stripped back, polished and lacquered and because they dont do this, I'm on my own. Whilst I'm not overly bothered, as I'd intended to go to a specialist like lepsuns (and only asked the dealer out of convenience), it got me thinking whether a mis-match of wheels should ever have been sold as approved used and whether I have any recourse to getting it sorted out for free?

Given its been two years since I bought it, the dealer/BMW will argue that I could have had them repaired at anytime since then, but I'd like to at least have a try at sorting it out. Has anyone had any experience of a situation like this before? Is this something I tackle with the dealer or with BMW?

Any help or advice would be appreciated?

The test is that when you purchased were the goods fit for purpose and in your case I suggest the answer has to be yes. Your goods were not sold 'as new' but secondhand so what you see is what you get and after 2 years of use I think you can safely say there were fit for purpose. You might try a good will gesture from the dealer but I dont rate your chances - its a tough world out there at the moment for everyone in the retail trade.
 
It maybe two of the alloys were replaced by a BMW dealer at some point under warranty as some have received painted inners (all outers are polished lacquered always).

I have had 6 new wheels so far and all were polished and are waiting to have my fronts swapped out again in the next week or so.
 
You'll be lucky if you get anything. When I brought mine I found out mine where painted like yours and the paint was starting to bubble. Seeing as its still under three years old I thought I try for a new set due to corrosion. Took it to my local dealer for them to inspect the wheels and said because there were refurbed the warranty on the wheels were void, and that I need to get the suppling dealer to correct them which was sytner in Nottingham. I was damed if I was going to go back up there. They offered to repaint them but said it wound start to bubble again because the were not splitting them before painting. In the end I managed to get a contribution towards a refurb, but that was less then half the cost if it was to be done properly.
