A bit of a result...

To be fair, the chap turned up 24hrs after my call, I can work from home and was planning to anyway, it cost a tenner, I have very little hair left to lose and pain keeps you sharp :D

The guy said they are really, really busy - if I'd called today for a new screen they wouldn't have been able to do it until next Friday. They're paying people to work days off it's that bad.

There must be a market for some sort of protective film that can absorb or distribute the shock of a stone hit and prevent chips and cracks - kind of like a phone screen cover, but on a bigger scale and more impact resistant. Maybe made of transparent nano carbon or something... If it was £150 and lasted three years then I reckon you'd save that on windscreen excesses, and maybe even benefit from a slightly reduced insurance premium.
