Car went the garage today to have its DSC/ABS/Brake system warning light looked at...

Apparently some piece of electronic/hydraulic wizardry has gone wrong - something they have never seen before - the part costs £1400 + vat!

How can a part be worth 1/7th the value of the car :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Have a one series convertible as loaner - quite taken with it. Maybe ill just hide from the garage and they can keep my car and ill keep theirs....

The wing mirror housing on my 2001 M5 is vibrating slightly. Scotthall have quoted me £1200 to replace it. (Naturally it can only be replaced, not repaired, and it's not covered under warranty because it's "trim").

The service manage is phoning BMW to try and get them to contribute so i've got all my fingers and toes crossed...

If its the main ABS control unit and the pressure sensor is faulty,or its showing a high pressure fault on diagnostics there is now a repair kit available..

BMW do sell it,although it can be bought on the aftermarket too...

Ring the dealer and question them before stumping up any cash..

Correct. There were loads of these hydraulic control units failing on the Series I model and a replacement cost anything between £1500-2000! BMW didn't initially admit to there being a problem with the original unit.
However many continued to fail, including mine, and BMW finally forced Bosch to bring out a repair module which only cost £180 including VAT and I had one fitted a couple of years ago by my Indy for £262 all in including bleeding the brakes and some brake fluid.

Interesting that... a wing mirror - so far as I understand - is a legal requirement. How can that be classified as "trim"? Just because that it is how it is listed on their parts system?

I have an angled bolt that attaches my screen onto the bike frame... one of them got broke so i trripped off to BMW,, cost of replacement 44£

£44 say's I yes it comes as part of a set of two and also two of the knurled spacers and two washers and nuts.......... :headbang: they used to sell them separately but now its part of a set.. wtf

I took my original part drilled the fitting at the correct angle inserted a bolt (of the correct width) cut the head of the bolt job done cost 15 minutes time....

Hmm thank for this info - ill ask them.

BMW have agreed to pay 80% of the cost of the part so thats almost an admission of guilt given the car is over 5 years old now
