A good friend of mine just picked up a fully loaded 991 carrera......Its the PDK model with sports exhaust and loads of interior / exterior optional extras.
Man what a car!!! to be honest I thought I was going to be underwhelmed but its an epic drive from the base model!

Went out in a 997(S) GENII, 59 plate onwards) a couple of weeks ago and it was epic fun. So much grip.

I have been after a 911 for years and with the 996 being pants (turbo excluded), 997 Gen1's having bore score and IMS failures I have decided to wait to get a GenII. The 991 is another step forward and your mate is a lucky man.

For those who have never had the pleasure any 911 is a special machine & owning one is something to cherish . The noise alone of the flat 6 is pure magic .
Owned a aircooled 964 + watercooled 996 but never driven a 997 , its on my list of "to do's" though

I think there's something wrong with me. i have a 997 turbo, but prefer the Z4 (E89 35i).

the 997T was/is my dream car so i just can't bring myself to sell it, but it hardly ever gets used these days.

Ooh, you could be perfect for advice. I have been looking for a low miles 997TT for a couple of years. I have a list of cars I want to own but the Z4 35i has recently popped up in between my plans and I really like the look of them/cost. Moving house has also made me worry about the running costs. 2006/2007 £40K+ purchase price and potentially big bills for a 997TT V's a brand new Z4 35i £32K and peace of mind with warranty and servicing.

Question is, why do you prefer the Z4? I also fancy a kitted 997 C2S as I have been advised that this is more fun than the TT.

Maybe it's not a good idea to meet your idols as you can be disappointed.

wow e89 over a 997 this sounds interesting!? :driving:

After going out with a supercar club for a day out recently the lads who had the 997TT's reckoned the C2S was the most fun to have. 4WD spoils the fun apparently.

@Harvard, they are probably right. As a passenger it did feel like the rear was playful and can only imagine an 2wd S being even more so.

Hi,

I've also had a 997 C2S so can help there too.

997T vs. 35i
——————

#1 reason is that i missed having a convertible. i bought an S2000 as i’d never owned one, but missed the mod cons so bought the Z4.

yup OG spot on. 997T exhaust note is non-existent. will cost about £3K to get it decent. love the pops and burbles from the 35i exhaust.

difficult to drive the 997T slowly. it only comes alive at crazy speeds, which you get to within seconds. i rarely drive fast these days and the Z4 just wants to cruise along. it’s no sports car.

the handling on both a 997 C2S and 997T blows away the Z4. i haven’t driven a Z4 with adaptive suspension, but can’t imagine it will help that much.

2007 997T vs. 2009 Z4. Z4 has better sat nav, iPod integration and bluetooth, i.e. has newer tech.

slush box 997T vs. DCT Z4. obviously the DCT is a better gearbox.

running costs for the C2S and turbo aren’t scary if you use an indie and are comparable to a high end bmw. if you use Porsche and BMW dealers then there will be a big difference between the two.

My 997 is pristine. i’m often worried about muppets going into it whilst driving and where i should park it. not bothered about the Z4.

you can put a Porsche warranty on a used car even if you buy it privately, but it is very restrictive. i.e. no mods. dealer servicing only (a bit of a grey area).

a £45K 997T will be old, but will be a top of the range car with loads of toys. A £32K 35i will have very few toys and i’m sure will get to over £40K by the time you’ve picked some “essential” options.

997T vs. 997 C2S
—————————

Even though the 997T is not supposed to have any turbo lag there is a definite point where the power kicks in. i’m going to stick to NA cars in the future.

the C2S feels more spritely than the turbo. i’d say the C2S was more of a sports car whilst the turbo is more of a grand tourer. i used to the track the C2S. don’t think the turbo would be as much fun.

i can no longer drive manual cars because of back issues. the turbo is the only model where you can get away with a slush box auto. non-T cars need to be manual (my 997 C2S was) or PDK.

i find the styling of non-T 997s a bit bland. i love the side intakes on the turbo.

interior on both models is the same. the 99T comes with more toys. you have to get sports chrono as it gives you a sport mode that reduces the traction control and also gives 10 secs of overboost.

again there’s not much difference maintaining a C2S vs. a turbo as long as you use an indie.

Blimey i had a lot to say. in conclusion.....

if i had £45K-£50K to spend on either a 997 or a 35iS i'd go for a gen 2 997 C4S (wider body than C2S) Targa with PDK. i think that's how much they'd cost.

I drove the 991 911 during a rally last summer, also with the sports exhaust... I would buy this in a heartbeat if I had the money.

I had the grey one with the white-green license plate under the topid "2013 PCA rally":

at some point i'm planning to part-ex the 997T, Z4 and S2000 and get one car that meets all my criteria. the choices are (in order of preference):

Ferrari California (might not ever have the budget for this though)
Porsche 991 C4S convertible
Audi R8 V10 convertible

gonna be a couple of years at least before any of these fall into my budget (<£70K) though and i really should be thinking about clearing the mortgage, but you only live once as they say.

Porsche seem to do just enough to have you wanting the newer model.

when i was looking for 996s the 997 was just that bit better that i decided to wait until i could afford one. now the 991 is just that much better that i wouldn't put my money into another 997 even thought a gen 2 997 GTS convertible is all the car i'd ever need. sods!!

I agree - unsurprisingly - difficulty tracking one down though - they were rare/unpopular new.

Going off the idea of an E89 now as I thought with adaptive suspension they would at least be half decent in the corners.

Looking at an M coupe now or may even go back to looking at Porsches. I suppose a test drive will reveal all but it's a PITA trying to get one from a BMW dealer. Especially with a 35i.

There's nothing comparable to the drive of a 911 it's unique and it's something everyone should experience imo.

Wonderful cars!

Finding a used 35i with adaptive suspension is near impossible. it came as standard on the 35is (i think).

I was considering a new one. 35i M sport with 19's, folding mirrors, adaptive suspension etc at £32.5K from Broadspeed or BMW Manchester who said they would match the deal.

Problem I have is that this car was meant to be more fun than a Toyota Supra at around 380Hp. My car is large and a great GT car but I want something more fun and more able over a twisty stretch. Reviews seem to suggest it is the car I am looking for but on here there are differing opinions.

Otherwise I am going to look at M Coupes and Gen2 997 C2S's. The problem I have is that unless the Porsche is kitted, they look a little bland in standard form.

The search continues.
