981 cayman s

That Cayman is lovely  . This would have been my first choicec (if money were no object). I felt the E86 was the next best thing that fitted my budget.

Its really good of you to offer a test drive to others. I'm tempted, but this could end up with me selling one of my kidneys

As others have said, that is a beautiful looking vehicle
Any chance of some interior pics please? (including the seats you're talking about).

Yes no problem ... tucked up at present but if the weather holds I’ll put some up over the weekend

Tempted by one of these. Driven the 981 S a few times and I've got to say it's one of the best handling cars I've driven.

Out of interest, what spec did you go for? Sports exhaust, PDK, chrono, PASM?!

Spec is
Pdk
Sports exhaust
Sport Chrono- inc dynamic engine mounts
Pasm - adaptive dampers
PTV - mechanical lsd - inc some braking magic thing
Extended leather - so on the dash , full door cards ect
20” Carrara wheels in platinum grey
Colour crested wheel centres ( yes that really is an option !)
Sports plus seats -6 way adjustable-heated
Sports design steering wheel
Embossed leather arm rest ( I added this )
Nav unit
Plus other stuff I can’t remember!

It’s a great spec in my eyes but the difference in price from a basic spec one and a top spec one can be as much as 10k !!

Honesty don’t mind taking anyone out in it , i always try to get a ride / chat about a car I’m consider buying from someone who isn’t selling . You get a better / more honest view of it I find

that's a fantastic spec! Big congrats!

Great spec that and a lovely car.

IIRC you could have £30k of upgrades for a 981 on top of basic spec..

Yes I can quite believe that ! Put on the ceramic brakes , Porsche adaptive lights , carbon buckets ... crazy how it adds up . Never really got how the same cars of this brand ( and others ) could vary so much in price . That is until you start to realise practically everything is an extra !

Yep...

Mine has 9k of options and it skinny on spec comparatively, the 20" wheels and litronics are big money,as are the sport leather seats.

Thanks chaps

It’s just one of those rare cars ( IMO) that does it all ... it’s beautiful looking , amazing sound track , chassis is sensational , build quality and yet still classy . I’m over the moon with it . Still very daunting ( for me anyway ) spending this sort of hard earned money on it and I’m under no illusion that I’ll loose a chunk on it , given the way everything seems to be going ! But ultimately it was the right time for me to buy a realistic dream car .
How does the roof come off though like a Zed? :poke:

It’s called a boxster :)
Another soft top though

That looks a cracker - well done. I recently moved out of a 35is & M140i and replaced both of them with a 718 Cayman GTS, which I took delivery of on 02/01/19. Its the best every handling car I have ever owned, the quality so far is unquestionable and its a real joy. Yes I spent about £11K on options including PDK, GTS interior package, Bose and 18 way memory seats, however, I decided if I was going to do it then I might as well go for it. Also ,I have recently joined the SKIN (spend kids inheritance now) club. If anyone is local to South Wales and is thinking about a 718 and has any questions or wants to look over the car and have a ride then give me a shout.

I’d love a 718 gts ... they are a proper quick car and the interior/ exterior is another step up from the previous generation, congratulations

Unfortunately I had a budget and I have to say I prefer the way the n/a motors sound . I’m sure you’ve heard that before

As said the build quality blows anything previous I’ve owned out the water

Bit more than 10k you can spec the 718 to over 70k pretty easily :?

Main difficulty looking for a box/cay is many are bogo spec and still command 30+ the nice ones with the spec you want are a little eye watering considering they are now up to 7 years old. Why cars like the Z4M are still sought after because they are still half the price although these are certainly a huge step up in every way.

Lovely motor indeed.

I’m talking about 2nd prices on the 981 cayman s ... start at around 32k for a very basic spec / higher mileage and can go up to 45k for a low mileage/ top spec one ! On the face of it , the same car . Then you start to see all the extras and how that translates to the prices of them . Mine was around the 60k mark I believe when new .

But yes the Z4mc in comparison are utter bargains and I’m in no doubt a decent one with good suspension/ tyres could hold its own against one .

For reference I paid 42k , 2 owners , 23k miles , just had new front disc/ pads / tyres all round and still with 6 months Porsche approved warranty . I also paid for a full 111 point inspection from Porsche before purchasing . It was bought privately also. Think I paid around the right price ... from Porsche themselves I’d have thought it would have been 45k but then you do get a 2 year warranty from them .

Yep the well documented engine debate took some decision making with regard to whether to choose a 981 or 718, however, I must say the sports exhaust on the 718 does sound good. Styling changes aside, the 2 year servicing on the 718 (I will be getting an interim oil change done annually) together with the mpg on the 2.5 engine are good news. :D

A few interior pics .... got my cheap ( for a reason  ) private plate on as well
