In a moment of madness I once bought a 98 Range Rover 4.6 V8 - it was only 4 years old at the time.........
By joining forums just like this ..... I enetered a world of discovery and madness, it seems that the Rangie is possibly the most unreliable vehicle on the road.
The upside of this though is that there is a whole community of folk that have grown together to find fixes and mods which keep them on the road.
which brings me to the point of this post .......... because it costs 80 quid to plug the Rangie into and official computer just to find out what is wrong with it, many hours even
years were spent by folk devloping software that would do the job for you on your laptop. Is there any such beast out there yet for the Z4 ....? does anyone have
a wee program I could buy, that would let me plug into the zed and see how its doing ?
Just for info ...... standard stuff for a 98 rangie was, slipped liners (cylinder liners), ie instead of being a press fit in the engine block, they would decide to just drop
into the crankcase destroying the engine in seconds ....... (had that one
). Air suspension, excellent except whenever a single fault was detected on either
of the 4 height sensors, the valve block, the compressor, the air bags or any of the fittings ....... it would lower itself onto the bump stops and stay there, which only
ever happened when you were 1000 miles from home ...... and, you guessed, could only be reset by landrover at a cost of errrrrrr 80 quid.
Security system .......
it had a mind of its own, even if you had the key in your hand, there were days it wouldn't let you in, and even if by chance you
managed to get in......... the engine management system was disabled .......another, well you get the point.
Once mastered though, was quite a rewarding drive .....lol
