93BD control-unit fault - 2003 BMW Z4 3.0i E85

Hello! I bought a 2003 Z4 3.0i in February of last year. It's had an airbag light on since the day I got it. Today, my Creator 310+ came in so I could finally find the fault. It's '93BD control-unit fault'. Would this be the main control unit that is located just below and behind the parking brake? How do I know? I saw this "motortronics" UK site that supposedly fixes them for $150. Has anyone used them? If that's the right part, it's $1,348 through BMW- which is ridiculous. Any help/tips/information is appreciated.

Welcome aboard.
Yes that does indeed sound like the centre module, known as the SIM85.
Couple of things you can try first: disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. Very rare that it works, but nothing to lose. Also check the yellow plug mounted on the left side of the battery compartment to be sure it's correctly seated and no signs of corrosion.

In all likelihood though, you need a replacement SIM85. But not just any old one! If you pop out the coin holder tray behind the handbrake you can just about see the module and its label. Get the part number, last 7 digits starting with a 6.
Then pop that into realoem to find out which ones can be used. Or reply on this thread with the number or a photo of the label and I can advise you which ones are compatible.
If you find a replacement it will need coding with both VIN and System Time in your car.

Your best bet may well be to contact the repair company first. Ask if once repaired it will be a simple plug back in or if it needs coding at all?

How do I pop this out? I've been trying but don't want to pry and accidentally scratch the surrounding plastic parts.

Plastic trim tool under the front edge and prise it up.
