For all you southerners! Are you enjoying the sticky steering. I waited too long to sell the Z4. Now I have to wait the whole summer before I unload on an unsuspecting sucker. Chris Bangle: have you solved, (I mean admitted) this problem yet????? :driving:

What about the rest of you??

Sound off: Have you experienced the dreaded sticky steering??????

Yup, I got it when the weather is hot or when I drive for a couple of hours... downright dangerous IMHO

I think all cars manufactured from 2004 onwards shouldn't have the dodgy steering column problem. The original fault was caused by the internal tolerances being too tight. When the parts got hot the small amount of expansion caused them to seize. Major safety issue to say the least! Fortunately mine has a June 04 build date.

Yep. But I don't think that would limit the free fix. BMW knew it was a problem and had it documented. Since it only affected Zeds in the really warm climes, they didn't issue a formal recall, but dealers apparently don't have a problem researching the issue and doing the fix.

Might give it a go coz it freaks me out.. what I do know if at the moment I couldn't afford to pay for them to fix it...

Isn't that guy the same bright bulb that posted the "Where's the HC thread?"

Eeeesy, Tiger... we seem to have misplaced him already, we're not gonna coax him back with comments like that :o

... but...

Sticky is spelled without an "e."

...

and Easy is spelled with an "a."

Did you not read the small print when you signed up.. I MAKE THE RULES... If I want to redefine the spelling of Eeeesy (new official spelling!) then I will, goddammit (another new word.. hah!) :poke:

I don't have this problem. It's been in the 110 range the past week or two or longer and no sticky steering here. Car is an 01-03 build.

He's been around since Sept. 07. not really a newb.

I haven't noticed this yet either. FIrst time I've heard of this problem!
weather report says 111 degrees today... :o

Mine's an 11/02 build and it has this issue, but only to the extent that it feels like the sport button is engaged. Now, on Zpost, I was told that there is no such problems by a guy in Dubai or some such are like that has not had the problem so therefore, it cannot exist.

Mine is a 01/03 build that I bought in March of 2003. The sticky steering problem became apparent the first summer here in Alabama. I complained early on but it wasn't until much later that BMW admitted that there was a problem. The solution was to replace the steering column. I had it done and haven't had a problem since. The real question is - will they replace it for free after the warranty expires. I would hope that they would.

Mine does it, but got better when I got new tires. The RFTs were unsafe in my opinion. It still is a little sticky but not that bad and I just adjust my driving a little. But then again it is only hot here 3 days a year :)
