Hey all,

I've had my 2.2 e85 for a couple of years now and it's never missed a beat! I love it very much, but I've had a promotion at work and have the itch for an E89.

In fairlt handy with a spanner so not afraid of an older car with some higher miles but here's my list of desires. Asking too much

- 23i or higher engine
- has to be an MSport model
- would love a red interior but not a deal-breaker
- preferably under 80k miles
- decent or full service history
- circa £10k
- some nice extras (satnav, mfsw, cruise etc)

What else do I want to be looking for/considering?

Thanks for the help!
Greg

Seems I might not be expecting too much. A couple of interesting ones for sale not much more than my budget including a 35 in the forum.

Love the look of this too...

Have seen this in the flesh, very nice car with a good spec and drives a treat. Met up with Atomic (Lloyd) last weekend as we were considering a swap. I didn't go ahead because my heart is set on an E86. Very nice guy, easy to get on with and straight up. Send him a PM but be quick as he was looking at stealer cars this weekend I think.

I would love heated seats in my car. The leather can feel cold and damp in winter.

A must in a convertible in my opinion. Had mine on today with the roof down and the heater on, lovely and toasty :P

Thanks for the info. That's a shame as it'll be a couple of weeks still before I'm in a position to do anything about it, but it'll be what it'll be :)

This time of year might well still be there in a few weeks. Good luck hunting. :)

Managed to work out the financea today so I'm gonna start searching properly.

- 10k is top whack
- seen a few 30i within budget. What's the difference between that and the 28i?
- what common problems am I looking for? Things like e85 issues of broken springs, roof motor location etc etc
- any other things I need to look out for or want?

Thanks!
Greg

Hi, 30i has the 6pot n52 from the older generation e85 & the 28i has the turbocharged 2litre 4pot shared with the 18i and 20i.
The e89 doesn’t suffer from drowned motors (very often) so no need to relocate, doesn’t seem to be as many broken springs either?

Thanks for the info. Is the old 6pot the one I want or is the newer turbocharged one a better option?

I'm not looking for a high performing sports car, but coming from a 2.2 e85 I'm definitely after a big performance boost from there!

There’s nothing in it for performance, a remap puts the 28i ahead though. Slightly better economy & cheaper tax for the 2litre.
The 30i is always going to sound better, it just sings a nicer song

Thanks very much. The road tax difference really is significant. Will definitely consider a 28i for the newer engine. Need to have a wee test for insurance costs too
