8 years after selling my Z4C, I'm back...

Hi all,

This is my first post in a very long time.

10 years ago, I bought a stunning E86 - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1175458#p1175458

I absolutely loved it but had to sell it 2 years later with the funds going towards our first house. Despite several cars later, it still remains my favourite ever car. I've always kept an eye on the E86 market and it seems that prices are very reasonable at the moment. I know they went a bit crazy around Covid but then again, everything did!

I'm looking to see if there are any decent bargains out there. It has to be a manual with no more than 120,000 on the clock. FSH. Not fussed if it's a SE or Sport. Heated seats would be nice but not a deal breaker. Ideally black but wouldn't rule out another colour. Maybe I'm being ambitious but my budget is around £7,000.

I'm checking AT, PH, FB & eBay every day but there doesn't seem to be many new listings coming up.

Any info anyone could share would be massively appreciated!

Cheers, Jay

Why 120k max. and FSH? Obviously other things being equal both things make sense, but from what I can see a car with 150k on the clock may well still have 150k on the engine, and so many of these cars have missing history from 15 years ago, or DIY history from more recently.

You may well find what you want in budget... but if I were in your position, dependent on what you long terms plans are, I might be tempted to see if I can get something with more like 150k miles for a lot less than £7k, or try to stretch that £7k to £8k or £9k and try to get something a bit lower mileage and Sport. But maybe that's just my personal bias, being someone who wanted a nice one, ended up buying a really cheap one, and now constantly weighing up the extent to which I should trade up now I know how much I love it, or stick with the cheap one I know and engage in guilt-free modification!

Edit - good luck by the way!

Welcome back Jay - well almost!

Prices were really low just before Covid. I got less than £7K for my 91K mile Montego Blue Sport, but then I had got a great deal on my MC. :D

I wouldn't be too fixed on 120K as the N52 engines are good for plenty more miles than that and you might not need all of your budget! I've had N52s in a 325i that had done 139K when I sold it and replaced it with a 330i that has done 128K and both still ran brilliantly.

Anyway good luck finding the right one.

I'm over the moon to confirm I'm now an E86 owner again :D

Purchased from forum member Wassup, I picked up this beauty yesterday. This morning I woke up like a kid on Christmas day, excited to start detailing. I genuinely can't believe how good this design looks (especially in Montego Blue 8) ) after 19 years. It's incredible!

Took my 6 year old son for a spin this afternoon and after his constant giggling with excitement, I knew I made the right choice!!

Here she is

Congratulations Jay.

I think Montego Blue is the best colour choice.

Thanks Jay, must admit I'm suffering from sellers remorse but pleased it's gone to a good home.

You know how to take a decent photo too 😁
