It's a Land Rover - a few little issues are part of the deal!

Haven't had a single issue with mine. Not one.

Mind you, they haven't delivered it yet....

Ive had my D3 since March 2006 and its had nothing more than niggles (Thats the kiss o' Death)

Anyone who's got or had a car or any vehicle that hasn't had some problem / " unwanted surprise " is very lucky imho.

Good luck. When I test drove the car, it was not for me either so I know where you are coming from.

What would you consider next?

Hi James, such a shame you're not liking the 35is, just goes to show everyone's different I guess. I test drove a 2.0m sport on 19's on Tuesday on dual carriageway and back roads and liked the ride so much I ordered a new 35is from the dealer. I got the cabin noise you talked of but it didn't bother me as I only have the roof down in my current zM and will in the new car but it was definitely there. I hope you can find a way round the issues and keep it with different wheels/tyres etc perhaps. Anyway all the best with whatever you do.

Surely it's fairly difficult to get a decent impression of a car in just 100 miles?

Anyway, shame you are not a fan, what's next on your list?

That was my thought. I hate rattles and noises but 100 miles is not going to be enough for stuff to settle. Yes, it shouldn't be there in the first place but with the temperatures low cars do make noises they won't when it is a bit warmer.

The cabin is full of noise but that is the nature of a convertible and 35iS with it's noisier exhaust. I found the road noise from the tyres a lot more than my previous Z4M Roadster but it is just something I can manage.

I really would try giving it a few more runs as it will not harm it's value. That said, I had a Fiesta ST new as an attempt at getting a zippy work car that cost little t run. I loved the car but I could not get comfy in the seats and every time I drove it I was moving about and concentrating on the fact I wasn't comfortable rather than enjoying the car. That was after a few days - I tried to put up with it but the car went after 3000 miles and 3 months. I lost a fair bit but do not regret trading it, in this case for a 35iS. I have only had serious regrets with 2 of my car shortly after I bought them and they both went. One I should have persisted with a bit but with the other (the Fiesta) I was right to get rid quick.

If you really can't put up with it then it is right it goes.

I racked up about 50-60 miles of test drives in various Z4s before placing my Z4 order... 100 miles total driven and wanting to get shot? :scratchhead:

If you can afford to take the cost to change hit then go for it, no point owning something youre unhappy with. If you sell to a BMW dealer just don't go back to see what they sell it for, feeling raped is not the word

Good luck with whatever you go for next, but try and wangle a weekend test drive so you know its the car for you.

I'm hankering after a Merc either C Class or an SLK but trying to be sensible and wait until the M135i is two years old. Still love BMW but I do question the build quality of its latest cars. Don't know if Mercedes are any better.

There surely can't be that many who hate the E89 with so much passion!
You must really hate it to take such a hit on the resale value.

I remember buying a Suzuki Vitara over 20 years ago :o and after a day realised I'd made a big mistake lol it happens however and the cost to change being second hand was negligible. I'm unsure though I could take a financial hit on such a new car personally. At least keep it longer and get some use and enjoyment out of it. How can you not enjoy a 35i on a sunny day, roof down and naked :)

Tim.

I'm very happy with my E89 although I gave a lot of thought to it having been happy with my E85.
But , many yeads ago I bought a Triumph Stag which turned into a real dog within days .... So I can understand the predicament .
Of course now I realise what it may well be £worth now !!! ?

A few observations to ponder. I'm sure there are many more

1. no dipstick to check the oil
Electronic is not a problem and probably just as accurate. Most people are more likely to check the level more regularly. Other items are measured electronically .

2. If the folding top fails, there is no emergency open or close procedure
There are all sorts of electronic and mechanical gizmos with no backup in this life. How many have failed on the E89?

3. Hard ride even with adaptive suspension
Don't want a sporty car to feel like a saloon car - it's less firm than the E85

4. Then I read the E89 fault section on this forum, and thought Jesus Christ is this car going to hold together for the long term
How many of these posts are real faults ? Most are niggles and not proper faults.
Just wait until the sun comes out again is the best bet
