Don't worry about the noise with the lid on. You'll forget all about it in the warm weather and the roofs off.

why wait for the warm weather,

Is it raining? Have you AC? Heated seats? - No / Yes / Yes - so what are you waiting for? :driving: :driving:

Remember - a convertible isn't just for summer - regardless of what the wimps would tell you :poke:

Morning Mr Bond. I'm yet another Yorkshireman now living down south, welcome to the boards.

My previous car was a 35i (DCT, owned for over 3 years and just sold) I moved to it from the last of the M Roadsters. I found that after the M, the E89 was far smoother and overall I described it as "grown up". Moving between those two cars the E89 felt like a GT and at my ripe old age of 45 hit the perfect balance of sportiness, smoothness, speed and luxury. I'm not sure what the concerns are with DCT as I've only ever found it to be a stunning gearbox, but then I'm a man that loved SMG in my M3 too... My only downer on DCT was the push with thumbs to go down a gear mechanism, which I believe is now gone.

My 35i ran on 326 19's and without a doubt the ride would be better with 18's. The downside of the 18's is that IMO they just don't visually complete the car. So it's a choice between ride comfort and style. Unfortunately BMW haven't really enhanced the wheel options sold with the Z4, I'd personally like to see some different styles and finishes on offer.

I had 1 lightly cracked alloy (picked up at the MOT) in my 3+ years of ownership (I did low mileage). However a complete repair and refurb was only £150. There's no doubt that the combination of low profile run-flats and firm suspension does not mix well with large potholes. But overall I'm used to sports cars and don't find the setup overly aggressive by any means. Whilst taking off the fun flats may make the ride more compliant the car was not designed to run on them and there's definitely an added security of knowing they are there. 6 months ago I had a tyre pressure issue and knew that the RFT's would let me complete my journey.

Overall I was so impressed with the 35i (purchased 1 year old) that I have now ordered a new 35is. I can't give any higher praise than that.

Good luck

Hi James,
Had a look at your Z4 in the dealership Fairfield a great looking car, I am just about to order almost the same spec in Blue with beige leather but with 18 inch wheels, have to admit after reading this post am slightly apprehensive,

I've an e 89 2.3 I with 19 inch and road noise is apparent on Surrey terrible road services .
Overall it's a different drive to
My e85 and sometimes I do miss it , but overall I did take time to warm to it so be patient but hassle the dealer of you're not happy.

Tim I disagree with you, re the warranty. On the Z4 they can and will say the warranty is void to anything related to wheels and suspension.....no hesitation. You'd have to argue the toss with them until you're blue in the face, as the car has been modified. You can protest this, but believe me, BMW would stand their ground and would win.
I'm a little late to the party with this but BMW would have to provide evidence that the modification caused the fault. Which considering non-RFT tyres tend to put less strain on the suspension may be problematic for arguing over suspension components claims. Wheels however are a more interesting point as there are different damage patterns associated with non-RFT & RFT tyres. It comes down to how easy it is for you to have the 'discussion' with BMW UK at the right level.

James, I've only had mine 3 weeks and am really enjoying it. Mine also has the 19" Alloys and was amazed to find the rears have 30 Profile on RFT's.

No wonder it feels firm. For me it was a toss up between this 3.5i and a Cayman S with PDK, put it down to age, but as soon as I sat in this BMW the decision was made, I had to buy it, plus I can always drive my sons Cayman if I want (funnily enough he likes driving this BM).

Your other point about build issues got my attention because there are plenty of Evoque owners grumbling about theirs. I'm just about to see our 3rd roll off the production line at the end of the month. A good alternative car to have especially at this time of year.

Seems there are a few E owners on here as well.

Give the Z4 a chance.

Good Luck with the recovery/treatment.

I remember reading a post about Graves disease, was it on here or the Evoque forum?

Hi

Yes I will .. just down in the dumps at the mo

I would have loved to have kept my Evoque but could not afford both, so have a little mini one for work. But once the z4 is paid off I will have a look at another Evoque .. but I have test driven the mini countryman all wheel drive and I was very impressed.

I purchased My z4 as a keeper .. and I know I should be thankful that I own one in the 1st place, we have booked up for the Duxford car show through the BMW car club so looking forward to that.

Also I have just recovered from Graves disease so thyroid levels up and down at the moment .. causing me to feel high then low plus a little anxiety has crept in

regards

Mr Bond, I'm beginning to think that we are somehow related, perhaps we met when you were filming Goldeneye ?

  • From Yorkshire - Check !
Came down South - Check !
    Bought a 35 Z4 - Check !
Bought an Evoque - Check !

Glad to hear you are through the worst with Graves. Good luck with the recover buddy.

Haven't had a single issue with mine. Not one.

Mind you, they haven't delivered it yet....
