That's true James it would, or warranty aspects related to suspension etc...

I would find a forum member on here and go out in each other's cars, and then base your opinion on that. If it turns out that the car is not as you expected then you will have to jump ship and see what the best rate you can get back and put it down to one of those things.

Hi James, yes it will be the 19" runflats as the compound is much harder than standard tyres which will give you more road roar, I found it quite noticeable even on 18s and always found it slightly dissapointing. I noticed it straight away when on a test drive but loved the look of the car so much it wasn't going to disuade me. I think also as your sitting further back near the rear axle and the fact the roof is aluminium the sound is amplified. I would certainly see if you can try an E89 on standard tyres as I bet you would be far happier. Re the warranty issue changing from runflats, utter rollocks and if it did void the warranty for any suspension problems then BMW would have to prove fitting standard tyres was the issue. Hell BMW fits standard tyres on my M135i at the factory, same goes for all M cars so don't see how voiding the warranty would stand. I know Maniac on here changed to standard tyres and remarked how better the Zed was so maybe speak to him.

I would certainly do this before considering changing the car as your going to take a BIG hit financially especially if you bought new.

Tim.

Just curious - did you not take a test drive? I knew it was not for me when I had one for 30 minutes during a test drive, the DCT drove me mad and the car left me cold ...

James, Jimbo bought my 35i and changed the. Runflats to normal, and. Immediately he said the car was much much better,

Tim I disagree with you, re the warranty. On the Z4 they can and will say the warranty is void to anything related to wheels and suspension.....no hesitation. You'd have to argue the toss with them until you're blue in the face, as the car has been modified. You can protest this, but believe me, BMW would stand their ground and would win.

I'm not sure many new E89 owners would go straight to standard rubber....but who knows

The Essex roads are fine, well they are here at the posh end. :poke:

In all seriousness, parts of the A127 are a bit ropey, there's a section between Bas Vegas and the A128 turning where I think I am going to end up in the ditch, and the surface is very noisy. I was on that stretch earlier today and really noticed it in the cabin (I have 18s on my E85).

Modern BMs are "sporty" (ie very hard) and big wheels just make it worse.

I think in all honesty it depends on the dealer, mine is fairly flexible on that kind of thing, they were with my MINI Cooper S when I fitted an aftermarket exhaust, others play by the book. End of the day if you want an easy life then you go along with it but if you fitted standard rubber and a shock absorber or a spring failed I would love to see how BMW could point the blame on a standard tyre which is more foregiving than a runflat. You could also argue the toss that runflats are the sole cause of the cracked alloys saga and that you were worried about this so fitted standard tyres :)

I just don't see how BMW could blame standard tyres causing warranty issues especially if you went for a make that BMW fit themselves e.g. Michelin Pilot Supersports, but know what your saying. Personally I would take the risk or get another set of alloys and swap the tyres over for any warranty issues lol. Has to be cheaper than changing the car for the sake of tyres.

Tim.

Voiding warranty on non run flats is utter tosh and is what BMW want you to think because they like to make lots of money from you from warranties and denying claims. They rely on fear at times, I have a lot of experience dealing with them due to the shoddy build of my car originally.

Fight them and you will win as no court in the land would agree that softer tyres could lead to more damage than rock hard tyres that transmit every shock and sound.

You will at some point have a battle with BMW but you will win if you shout loud enough.

Shame really given what you pay but there it is.

The e89 does have a lot of road noise at high speed, I'd say no more than my e85 though. It's better now I have M PSS fitted but still noisy. You have to bear in mind you are very close to the road and wheels. It's quite different in a saloon where you're the furthest from the wheels.

When I test drove the E89 it had 19" wheels and coming from an Audi A4 cabriolet I couldn't believe how bad tyre noise was, in my opinion it ruined the car, I eventually decided on getting the standard 17" wheels on the 3.0 litre and I was amazed how much quieter it was. If you come from a noisy car you won't know the difference but coming from the A4 it was terrible. I eventually upgraded the wheels to 18" with non RFT's and the change was negligible.

You will get used to it eventually, however I would say the that changing to non RFT's would be the best bet
