7 series 5.0 V12 400bhp £1200 ???

A friend told me of an 89 7 series 5.0 V12 400bhp for £1200, apparently a decent car and has a new MOT. Mad thoughts of floating around for a year and losing next to nothing, or maybe going supersize with the engine in a project? then I started reading up on the beast, hell! Anybody getting fed up with a sticky calliper or flicky emissions light needs to see this lot. Anybody got a good word for the 750 v12 ?

The 1989 (e32) 750i didn't have 400bhp - it was more like 300bhp - but the engines were fairly bullet-proof.

It was this perceived lack of power over the 740i (286bhp) that meant the 740i was much more popular - along with the better fuel economy for almost identical performance.

They're a nice place to be in whilst everything's working, but if the electrics/electronics start playing up then you just dump it and buy another.

My dad had the 740 as a company car.

I loved the interior, but kept telling him to get the 8 series (or knight rider version as i called it) instead.

I be read the first page of the site owners repair record, absolutely horrific! I'm astounded BMW let the model out into production with what seems to be a complete lack of development.

I loved my 740, best car I ever had for reliability and repairs. Cost me next to nothing.

Depreciation is of course a complete different thing

I was mis-informed it's a 1997 750i V12.
The rush of blood to the head has subsided but it still seems a lot of engine for the money.

In that case, buy it.

If it lasts a year without issue then keep it, if not then dump it on ebay and get some of your money back. Even if you get nothing back other than scrap value (£150) then you've still had a year's motoring for about £100 a month, which is less than hiring a 600cc Matiz.
