7 seater ?

Been looking around for a 7 seater car for my daughter - she has five children ! Just sold their old Type 2 vw campervan they had for years and want a more modern alternative - she likes the look of a Landrover Discovery . Her budget is around £4k - for this you can get a 2001/2002 series 2. Been researching these cars and have found that a common fault is rust in the rear chassis - found several possibles but when I did the DVLA Mot history check on them they all had advisories on chassis corrosion - the last one was a 2002 model that had " excessive corrosion throughout on rear chassis " As a result of all this we have gone right off these cars.

Any alternative suggestions for a seven seater for this money ?
 
When we where living over there, we had an 03 Renault espace. Not sure if in budget but was a great car. You can remove all seats individually and even change the orientation of them. Very handy. We even brought it back to Australia with us.
 
what about one of those vw van things i cant remember the model something like a transporter. its the modern equivalent of her camper van.

irc the older galaxy shared the platform with seat and someone else (vw?) the seat may be cheaper but basically the same?

I'm currently doing a lot of research on rust prevention and cure and funnily enough the Land Rover community is the greatest source of information. Those things like to turn to dust.

Anyway, Only person i know with 5 kids has a Mercedes ML320. Not sure how good or bad they are but other than the buses mentioned above it's the only thing i know of with enough seats.
 
Yes I was thinking of a Galaxy ( if I can persuade her away from the LR ) -never thought of a modern VW transporter thats worth looking into - she loved her old VW camper so this may be a good compromise.

I had a 2009 smax for 3 years and thought it was a great car to own, one of the very few cars I wish I'd kept. Loads of toys loads of space quick enough for a family bus 7 seats and still room for luggage. Amazingly it drove quite well and returned a real world 45 plus mpg rising to 55 on long steady runs at 70 mph.

Sadly I was lured awry by a fantastic trade in on a pile of sh!t called the cmax which I hated but that's another story

Thoroughly recommend the smax 2.0 tdci titanium
 
Peugeot 307 SW 1.4 HDi, one of the cheapest things to run on the planet.
Any yes, it can have 7 seats! It also has a roof made of glass so its pretty much a Z4...right?
Oh and if you're worried about storage, get a decent aerodynamic roof box for the ultimate baby factory transporting machine :D
 
Ive had an early Galaxy, an Espace and now I've got an S-Max 2.2 which does somewhat less than 45mpg (about 37) but is utterly brilliant at what it does. It's the first car I've run as my work car that I've kept over 50k miles. I extended the warranty and kept it. Now on 62.5k and still going strong.

An S-Max holds its value better than an a Galaxy too :thumbsup:

I'd avoid Espaces, like all French cars I've owned, it gave a Gallic shrug at about 50k miles and fell to pieces. It also drove like it had jelly suspension.
 
Certainly leaning towards a Ford - forgot to mention they've also got a mad springer spaniel !! Perhaps she needs a coach instead.
 
we have a 2002 landrover with 7 seats - they are a great bus, we dont do many miles and have the v8 which IMHO is a much better drive

if we had to change it I would want to look at a VW transporter or the mercedes r class - they may be out of budget, but the mercedes r class is also built for sanyong - its almost the same car 7 seats / 4x4 drives like a car, mercedes shell and engine - and very very cheap.
