6x9 Speakers

Picked up a new Z4 recently which unfortunately has the basic speaker set up. Was thinking of installing some 6x9;speakers behind the seats. It looks like an easy job? Unless someone knows different?

Yup it’s massively difficult…suggest either OE or after market subs designed to fit the enclosure

Of course you’ll need an amp as well..

The basic system in the z4 is pretty poor, I’ve all ready changed the mid range and added some tweeters, recoded to hifi and now on with adding a couple of sub woofers from the 676 hifi system along with some amplifiers.
Here’s a link regarding upgrading the 6 speaker system, plus a quick search will find you some more.

Actually reflecting on its ..it’s not massively difficult..as you will still have the same issues with the factory subs..that of getting a neat hole in the fibremat bulkhead,..if you go with a copy of the factory sub system it’s all plug n play ..if you do it with a 6*9 then it’s cut n shut all the way…no worse than it used to be....

Plan was to add an amp and replace the front speakers. There should be holes behind that bulkhead where the subs should be.

There’s a preformed area in the rear bulkhead to accept a plastic enclosure that forms the subs container..if you position the speaker magnet in that area then it will fit ..you’ll need to decide how acoustically that will perform..

Im not that much of a stereo nerd or perfectionist it just needs a little more wallop than it currently has. Amp with a speaker upgrade and 6x9 seems the simplest option. I did search the forum and was surprised no one else seems to have gone that way. I thought i was maybe unaware of a hidden issue

Take a look at my thread here, you can see exactly what I did in order to install some subs in that location:
