65w instead of 35w-

I was kidding Andy, playing on your fears - sorry

Tbh I'm not sure what would happen, but it's kind of like house lights I guess - something could melt possibly ?

Yeah or at least blow a fuse

Not to mention it might melt wherever that bulb is as the heat output is double.

Which bulb is it?

Ok, so not an important one then.

Now is the time to replace them with the LED version - I did the same on my old X5 when one of the halo's went there.

I do have the spare old bulb from the other side, but probably the shipping costs would out way the benefit.

Thanks anyway mate.

Is the heat output of halogen bulbs directly proportional to the power consumption?

Why not try LED if you want more light and less heat/current draw?

Thanks I am looking into it.

LED bulbs on Ebay are a nightmare as there are so many claiming to be the best and the brightest and prices are all over the place. Be careful as you need to avoid any cheap Chinese stuff that will overheat/melt/fail and possibly damage other stuff too. I always filter on UK sellers only as step 1 but that doesn't mean you are avoiding re-sellers peddling the same fake CE marked cheap crap unfortunately. I'm not saying everything made in China is sub-standard but they seem to produce more than their fair share of the worst quality goods.

I have just replaced the 12W halogen halo/angel eye bulbs on the wife's X3 with LED and spent hours looking at every possible compatible item. They ranged from 3W to 20W and higher with prices from under a tender delivered to nearly £100! Trying to hunt through seller feedback for useful comments on specific items takes ages but did steer me away from certain products due to potential melting issues.

Eventually went for these as a compromise between not wanting to spend too much, not wanting separate resistors and hopefully getting something whiter and brighter than OEM yellow bulbs...

Typically after purchasing found some that look almost (but not quite) identical for less money...

Only been on the car for a short while but they are definitely whiter and brighter than OEM (nowhere near new car DRL brightness so don't believe any of those Ebay claims!). They can however be seen in the daytime even if they are not mega bright. I am happy with them for the money.

So choose wisely as it is a minefield!
