$6500 steering column

My 2003 Z4/3.0 needs a new steering column.....my mechanic is talking $6500.....is this excessive or reasonable?

and while I'm at it...Rear brakes (discs and rotors) for $2500?

If it's USD/CAD/AUSD/NZD then it sounds expensive.

If it's Liberian Dollars, then it sounds fine!

I’ll bet it doesn’t need a new column. They are easily refurbished for a few hundred dollars. Rear disks and pads in the UK - £100 a side so about $120.
Crazy prices you have been quoted.

More than likely an EPS motor fault. Do you have the yellow steering wheel icon, no power assistance and no Sport button working?
The EPS motor is fairly easy to extract but I'm not sure if it's so easy on a LHD?
Here in the UK we can remove it in around an hour, send it to a company who refurbish them, get it returned within 48-72 hours and bolted back on in another hour. Refurbishment costs us £295.
