60th bday present ideas?

Howdy

Non-car related, but its my Dad's 60th soon (ok, on Thursday!) and I'm completely out of ideas as to what to get him.

He doesn't really drink (the odd ale and glass of wine, but a fine whiskey probably wouldn't be appreciated).
He's into rugby league (salford city reds) and an armchair football fan (man united).

season tickets are a bit beyond budget, and we're already going out for meal and to catch a salford game.

out of sheer principle (I'm a City fan) he's getting nowt Man Utd related

He's not really into anything naff/jokey...

Crikey, you've left it a bit late!

A nicely framed photo of family (you should still be able to do it) or a new watch?

Ipad or ipad mini (maybe preload some relevant apps, games, music or ibooks to get him started depending how tech he is). My dads over 70 and once he got started he was like a kid with it

Have you got a party arranged ? If not it's a bit late but you could still throw a surprise party of sorts - I remember my 60th and all our kids and grandchildren turned up - I was chuffed to nuts and we had a brilliant night .

I'd go along the same lines as Carol except I would have a sort through photos that you already have and pick the one that means the most to you or your Dad and have it blown up onto canvas.Your Dad can then hang it at home.I had a family pic blown up of our holiday in Florida last year for my wife which now takes pride of place in her office.I had it done at Bluewater Shopping Centre, took about 1.5 hours, price about £55

Meccano Set or Catapult... to bring back memories of his youth

Some good suggestions (and some not so good;))

He's into folk and blues music, so I've bought him guitar lessons and a guitar. He's expressed wanting to play a couple of times (I play and have a few guitars).

Also going out for a meal and to the rugby.

Think he'll like that...

Jesus your dad's younger than me...

+1

Ha! You old duffers ;)

 Ah! But when the sun shines us old duffers take the lid off and go for a ride in our cars - you young pups are at work to pay for mortgages, pensions, kids, looking for promotion and worrying about redundancy etc etc!
