6 Series - worth a buy?

My mate is considering a 2007 Series 6, V8 with 38,000 miles. He's coming from a 350SLK and has been looking at SL500s.

He's asked me what I think - can't really say but wondered if there were any thoughts/experience on the Forum?

Cheers :driving:

I've had 2, a 645 and a 650....

I think they look a little old now, and that an SL still looks good......

I just think there is something redundant about a 4 seater convertible........unless he is buying a coupe, that's fine.

See I'm the other way round. In my mind a convertible is for posing and cruising, a 4 seater, to fit some friends / family members in and go out for a nice day out is perfect. I think a sports car should be a coupé for improved driving dynamics.

Just my 2pence

Funny I'm thinking the other way round. I never really liked the shape but the last couple years I think it's starting to look really good.

Did you find much difference between the 645-650.? Also any crazy repair bills.?

What is a big shame is that they didn't make it with a diffrent boot. Looks great with the boot lid out of the way

Mine were both in warranty so no issues. But my 645 went in 30 something times for faulty reef sensor which ended up in them giving me over £50,000 towards the purchase of a new 650 sport convertible.

But otherwise nothing else. Run flats ok too

Still think better cars out there

I always look back on my 6 months with V8 6series as being the best all rounder ive ever owned .
In that it did everything, had everything & could seat 4 albeit a squeeze in the rear
Up to the facelifts were full of problems both mechanical & electrical
As Stark mentioned even on 19inch runflats they drive without the usual failings , possibly the adaptive suspension ?
In short i parted with mine after being without it for some 30 days's out of the 150 or so owned it
If not for my pal being a BM indy it would have cost me thousands , as it was i hit £1500 in repairs pretty swiftly which to my mind were more manufacturing weakness which grates on me at that level of car
Should add mine was a 2 owner 60k always serviced at BM car
Heated steering wheel & controlling the cd by voice were nice gimmicks
I have looked at them again recently as they fall but the £500/tax puts me off as a weekender
Great interiors btw

"Coolant transfer pipe" is worth a google.

The 645i had more issues fixed in the 650i but details escape me right now.

Uses a lot more gas than any Z or 3-series except the e93 M3.

Wheels are problematic. Large wheels, big offsets, large brakes. A second set of wheels is annoying to acquire.

i test drove 3 different 6 series (convertables) all the V8 versions, they all drove very smooth and powerful, but everyone i went in seemed to have a damp problem inside and the boot, so in the end i went for my Z4m
