Apologies if I’m repeating another post, this might be of use to some members

In 2 minds about Sorning the car now, as no MOT to pay for . Hopefully ( but doubt ) BOJO will relax the rules in a couple of weeks and we can got for a drive or two.

Well I did SORN the car last night sadly :| I can re tax it at anytime and its going to put money into better things ( not sure there are better things than driving the Zed ?) If it sits for a couple of months before things ease up, rather I kept the money than watch it tick away in the DVLA's bank.
Its a wacky time for all and having 3 cars to use, seems one has to hide for now.
Thinking of what it needs done and to be honest other than a replacement front ARB , was basically all together for this years motoring :driving:

I've just checked my car on the system, the MOT that was due on the 3rd of April has already been extended to October and they are working through them in date order. So, some good news amongst the gloom then :)

Linky to MOT database https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/?_ga=2.105537155.1435063237.1576478834-1480051124.1560460327

Yep, can see that now as well. Perfect, £27 saved

With 3 cars SORN-ed now John, the savings are paying for at least 5 loo rolls and perhaps your drink ...

Just checked mine which ran out on the 30th March, now showing 30th September

pssh that'll teach me for getting mine MOT'd a month early... if id have waited my MOT would now be due 9th October.

Our 5 series was due on 30th March and we only realised last week! - managed to get a test for 9th April but the garage has now closed and moved the test into May.

Kept checking the date on the Gov MOT checker and even yesterday it still said 30/3 - unless you went from the Covid - 19 information page where it then showed 30/9. I guess that the web site is starting to catch up now. I'll still take the car for test in May (assuming they are open) imagine how many cars are going to need testing in the autumn - unless they add six months to everyone for a year.

The Caterham is due later this month but now I can run it all summer (assuming again) then sorn it when it becomes ready for test in late September - so a bonus year here

Imagine the state of the cars when they havent been looked at for 18 months.

I expect cars that would pass with no advisories now will pass then and cars which would fail now will certainly fail then - its about the owners not the cars

I run a classic that's not been tested for years now but I'm certain if I took it in it would pass. The cops are going to have a great time by late summer - lots of stops and lots of 'don't give a f...' car owners collecting fines :police:

Of course..

We enter around 500 cars a year for MOT....i would say 80% fail,40% have lights, tyres and brake issues.

People repair out of necessity now,it doesnt help that annual servicing is slipping into mainly condition based servicing too..

The amount of people that come to us and say... Blah blah blah isnt working and i had it MOT'd 3 months ago.... :headbang:

Might be - but in the more strict countries such as NL, it was only the garage owners that were moaning about the loss of revenue when the MOT was moved to two years due to the new cars being so much better than before.

The UK is a rip-off for MOT charges anyway, I paid a few months back 15 Euros for an MOT in NL which would have been free with a major service.
