5v to 12v adapter for Intravee II

I have an intravee II in my car, and it works well with the standard apple 30 pin to lightning adapter, but it won't charge. I do also have a 30 pin 5v to 12v (or 12v to 5v...) adapter, but it is crap. Sometimes it won't charge, sometimes it's only left audio etc, clearly a cheap product.

So, is there an adapter people recommend? I'd be great if there was a 30pin to lightning with the voltage change too!

Also, side question. With my Intravee, sometimes if I go into reverse and back, the stereo emits a horrible high pitch noise, either unplugging my phone or killing the engine will stop it. This is without the 5v/12v adapter. Intravee running latest FW. TIA
 
My intravee cable connects into one of these https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F282065918456 and then a 30 pin extension cable runs to a genuine Apple 30 pin to lightning adaptor then a lightning cable runs to my Brodit holder. Phone plays music through the speakers and charges and I can use the MFSW controls. I found that it would only charge with a genuine Apple adaptor.

Sometimes when I click the phone in, I get a high pitched squeal too and the music is very quiet. I just reseat the phone and that seems to resolve it. Not sure why you would get that going into reverse.
 
I have one of those adapters now, and it seems poor quality.

Without it, every time I plug the phone in, it works, music plays. With it, I'd say 75% of the time it won't connect and I need to redo it a few times, which then leads to the high pitch noise every so often. Maybe I just have a Friday built one...

I rarely need to charge when driving, but when I left goodwood the other day, I was on low battery, needed music and for instructions to come through the speaker as I forgot my dash mount.

Out of interest, how have you managed the cable to the holder (I'm assuming on the dash)? My cable comes out the centre storage behind the seats, and there is barely enough slack to get it to the dash, the cable gets in the way of the handbrake.

ETA: I have purchased one from your link. Will see how it goes.
 
The intravee runs to the adaptor that I have stuck down in the centre console -

Then the extension cable runs within the tunnel shroud to the 30pin to lightning adaptor.

I bring the cable out just in front of the passenger seat, install the adaptor and run the lightning extension cable to the dash mount hiding it within the tunnel shroud again.

All the cable and the adaptor are hidden behind the plastic. I only see about a foot of cable when it pops out at the little net at the passenger footwell.

I purchased the adapter you posted a link to and it still doesn't work, infact this one seems worse than my last! I can't get it to work at all.

Wondering if the pins are damaged on the other cables, sometimes I only get audio on 1 side etc. Maybe need a new cable from the Intravee II

Where did you get a long cable for the Intravee II to 30 pin? No way mine would go from the boot to the front.
 
Mine doesn't go from the boot to the front - it only just pops through the bulkhead behind the seats. In my first picture the cable from the Intravee is on the left of the adaptor you just bought. The cable of the right is a 1m long 30 pin cable I had from the previous car. This runs behind the centre tunnel trim and when it ends I have a genuine apple 30pin to lightning adaptor (Any other adaptors wouldn't give me audio and charging). This is the white adaptor behind the black tape. This then connects into a 1m long lightning extension cable that runs into the brodit. Maybe not the best way of doing it but I used what I had and it is all pretty much concealed anyway.
 
Turns out I hadn’t pushed the apple cable into the voltage converter enough :rofl:

All working now. Also recovered some cable so it now stretches to my non permanent dash mount

Haha, sometimes you just get so frustrated with something that you expect it not to work - and THEN you find it’s something simple. Good job :thumbsup:
