5DF0 / 5DF1 Fault Codes

Evening all!

Recently had the dreaded trifecta of dash lights and scan tool reveals 5DF0 and 5DF1 as the culprits. Wheel speed sensors and steering angle sensor all look to be working and reading correctly, so my assumption is the brushes in the ABS pump.

However on inspection, it appears that the pump has already been played with previously, as it has a pair of keeper plates retained by screws as opposed to the usual staked aluminium retaining method I’ve seen elsewhere.

Has anyone see this before? Is it the hallmark of a known refurbisher? It appears that with a bit of good fortune I may be able to remove the pump motor from the valve housing without removing the rest of the ABS assembly. And if it is known who might have repaired it in the past, perhaps it might be within some kind of warranty, one can hope!

Anyway, photo attached for you all to peruse…
Thanks!

I got one done by ECU Testing but it was peened over, not plates like that. Can't help you with who it might be except fairly certain it's not them.

Evening All

I finally got round to fixing the above fault codes, which turned out to be the common ABS motor brushes sticking.

I bought a repair kit from eBay for around £30, and set about the job today. As seen in the photos above, the motor has previously been ‘fixed’ in some form, so removing just the motor was as simple as wheel and wheel arch liner off, and remove the two keeper plates, and taking the motor out. Great success! No having to drain any fluid or bleed brakes for me!
Removing the old bearing (new bearing supplied with the repair kit), and replacing the brushes all simple enough. Excellent set of instructions supplied with the repair kit too.
Pre and post repair bench testing of the motor showed that it definitely wasn’t spinning before, and was spinning afterward, so was feeling quietly confident.
Installation of the motor back into the ABS unit was as simple as removal, and a test drive afterward proved the fix as the light have all gone out, and ABS works properly!
Woo hoo!
