5DA1/5DA3

After replacing all the ABS sensors last June, then the DSC sensors, my 2003 2.5i has been dash light free for nearly 7 months.

Last week (in torrential rain) I got a whole bunch, ABS, flat tyre, traction control, and circle containing '!'

My code reader gives 5AD1/5AD3, both front right speed sensor. Using 'live data' on the reader, the sensor is giving 0.60 kmh when the car's driving whereas as the rest give a speed.

I replaced the front right sensor, but the problem persists. It is intermittent, but never stays off for more then 10 minutes before the fault reappears.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi Ron, no answers I'm afraid but yesterday I had similar symptoms - first of all the Low Temp alarm went off (it was close to freezing), followed shortly by the infamous 3 (DSC/ABS/Brake), followed shortly by the Run Flat warning and then I noticed that my speedo wasn't working. I'm just waiting to get my fault reader back so will confirm if it's the same code(s) for me. How can I find out about replacing the ABS and DSC sensors? Is there any notes online that you used? Rgds Martyn.

The speed sensors aren't too challenging. Take the applicable wheel off, with car jacked up and usual safety precautions taken.

The sensor is screwed into the back of the hub of each wheel by a 5mm Allen key. Good soak in penetrating fluid first, then then unscrew the 5mm Allen bolt and remove (may need persuading with a screwdriver).

Follow the wire from the sensor, unclipping it where it's attached to mounts on the suspension, and you'll find a rectangular box on the inner arch. Open this and theres a blue connector with a push to release tab. Pull the connector out and unclip it and the sensors out!

Fitting the new sensor is a reversal. Just be aware that some Z4 have brake wear indicators with a connector in the same box, make sure you take off the correct thing! The brake wear sensor wire (obviously) goes into the pads.

The problem im facing is that my code reader has highlighted a front right sensor failure, but replacing it hasn't solved it. Not sure what to look into next. I replaced both DSC sensors last year so I can rule that out.

Heres a guide I put up for the DSC sensors.
