Hi,
A neighbour of mine has the original shape Z4 and has been having a few problems. With one of the issues we suspect the dealer is fobbing him off, so I'm asking on here for others experiences:
He's had the car for 1 year, a Sep 2007 AUC car from local BMW dealer. It's been back to the dealer for several things, which I think they have sorted ok, but one of his issues is with the seat belts. Basically, they don't wind themselves back in. His wife can sit in the passenger seat and put the belt on, but as it doesn't wind itself back, it stays loose on her (rather than sitting snug across the top half of her body), unless she manually feeds it back. If you give it a sudden jolt, it does lock, so that part is working, but its as if the recoil springs have worn out.
He's shown this to the dealer and they said: its a characteristic of this model, and as it does "lock" then it is working fine! This is the part I think is rubbish! It is on both driver/passenger side.
Does anyone know of a fix for this, or can give any ammo to try and get the dealer to replace the bits? (would they be expensive if he chose to pay for them?) and is this a common issue?
His AUC warranty has run out, but he did renew it for a further year.
The car now has another problem, but to be fair the dealer is still investigating. Apparently, the fans will stop working. He thought it was a faulty switch/connector/resistor etc, but when the dealer looked at it, they said the car had gone into delivery mode - once they re-set this everything worked again. They are having it back in next week to do more diagnostics, but there initial suggestion is the wiring loom. Again, any ideas? I suspect the cars software either needs updating, or the ECU (or similar) may be faulty - surely if it was a wiring fault, a software reset wouldn't help?
As I said, they are still investigating this, so just asking if anyone has any ideas that might help point the dealer in the right direction?
Thanks for reading,
Kevin
