525D M sport

So, the time is fast approaching where I may well have to sell my beloved Z4MC due to a new house purchase and so, will need something a bit cheaper. Ive noticed that 525D m sports seem to be very cheap at the moment, does anyone have any experience with them? Things to look out for? Looking to spend around 10-12k.

Also, I love my music, did BMW do an optional extra in these the similar to DSP in our Z4's? if so, what did they call it?

Good choice for an all rounder , still look great on the road with imposing looks with the sport kit
usual diesel car DPF issues at mileage but easily removed & software deleted if they become clogged up
earlier cars had swirl flaps failing but later ones were modified .
Idrive can freeze & on the tourer the rear hydraulic suspension can be prone to failure
The upgraded hi-fi is Logic 7 i think , wasn't fitted to my E61

I found my old E61 520d very comfy & a nice place to be behind the wheel & very practical & a surprisingly entertaining steer, just the engine let it down not up to the task of shifting its bulk, but the 525d with its 3 litre won't struggle with its girth like mine did.

A good allround car imo :)

Can't speak for the 525D engine, as I have the 535D, but as an overall car, great. Make sure the one you get is 'fully loaded', and if you go for an auto, the paddle shifts are a bonus - I use mine all the time. Good hunting.

My neighbour is selling their 06 5 series, 40 odd k and asking about 9 grand I think. Let me find the advert.

Had three E61s...............530d,525d and 520d.
I wouldn't bother with the 525 if I was you,its neither one or the other. All good cars but I would either go for the power of the 530 or the
economy of the 520 ?

Thanks for the advise all twist994, would be interested to see this advert. Big Rob, you wouldn't see the 525d as a happy medium then?

No mate because its as expensive to run as the 530 and although more torquey than the 520..........in everyday running not that much quicker :D

Just put my 520 msport up for sale due to new job................ebay 130873091312 Item number:

 .... 525d are crap.... I have a 520 do for sale much better ahhahaha... really funny you say that

Someone tried spinning me that yarn on a 520d is was asthmatic compared to our 525

Looking on auto trader the fuel consumption and tax of the 525d 530d and 535d are all pretty much the same. Does anyone know if this is true in the 'real world'? If that is the case I'm struggling to see why you'd buy a 525d over a 535d?

Depends how you drive it and the sort of traffic, etc. I average 43mpg in my 535D, but would expect the 525D and the 520D to be significantly better.

I thought my 520d would be good on fuel but I only got 46/47 mpg it's because it's such a tiny engine in a big car thats working its ass off!

Better to go for a bigger engine that's less stressed & the benefits speak for themselves...more power & more smoothness for very little investment & in case you didn't realise the 2.0d is hopeless in a 5 series imo I loved the car but hated the engine :headbang:

I was also going to say don't bother with the 525d, go for the 530d. The same is also true of the 325 and 330 both in i and d form in my opinion. There is very little difference in terms of running costs but the performance is quite noticeable.

It's a 525 that they have, I've just spoken to his son so if he's still selling it he will bring his phone number round and ill pm it you. He said he's toying with the idea of keeping it and taking it to Spain with him... I'll update you later either way.
