The z4c' days are numbered -either that or buy a cheap runaround (space is needed).

My default choice was a 320d with a view to getting a fun car in the Elise type mold at a later date.

However, I relly like the look and quality of the 5 -sees like much more car for no more money. I'd b looking at either. 520 525 530d 08-09 year.

Anyone have any experience? I am looking at BMW in dealers as the pricing is generally competitive and I lik the warranty reassurance (bough my last 2 used from BMW)

Or will I think it's just a big barge? -

Have had a LCI 520d sport tourer & found it way under powered especially with the auto box . Wasn't stunning on economy either . high 20's town / low 40's long cruise .
On the plus side it was a great drive with rear air suspension (estate only ) acres of space & still looks great on the road . Probably would have another but with the low town miles would go for a petrol engine 8)

I have a 2009 520d m sport touring & agree with mr wilks the performance is woeful the car is far to heavy at nearly 1700kg to have a crappy 4 pot engine under the bonnet it's struggles like mad with the girth.

Everything else about the car i really like, comfy reasonable steer & it returns 46mpg even on short journeys for me, but I would advise a 6 pot petrol or diesel & I even like the way it looks :)

But wasnt E32 the direct age comparison to E34 ??

I have had a few E34 sports and they were a great car back in the day..

Yes it was but I think styling was they were more compatible..

I agree performance wise just not the best looking .. anyway back to the topic, sorry for going AWOL!

I read the title as ici (ICI) and opened this thread expecting a dig at Ruby... :P

Do you actually do a lot of mileage? Personally I'd rather have a 530i as a run around, unless I was doing 20k+ miles a year
