500 Miles on a tank ?

Is it feasible,has it been done?

Bought a forum(A4drk) members 3.0si coupe back from Edinburgh today...261 miles...

The car seemed to be hovering between 40-43mpg and overall achieved 40.1mpg.But on a few occasions the mileage done and fuel range figures when totalled came to around 460-465 miles...

Anyone cracked the magic 500 ?? I reckon it could be done..
 
I struggle to get 350 miles and anything better than 30mpg. I do have older engine so that I am sure makes a difference.
 
Dunno..

It would have to be exceptional circumstances i guess and steady motorway driving....

I averaged 69 mph so i reckon with a bit less right foot 500 miles could be got.

Funnily enough Andy its not an easy comparison....

A lot slower,but somehow more nimble....Its very easy to drive where the M took a bit of wrestling. Impressed with the MPG though,and it doesnt have a rattle or squeek anywhere....Full dealer history too...

Also seems to be a little more space around the shoulder area.. Are the seats in the M and the Si the same?

You have to expect less under throttle but with the sport button down & on the paddles i find mine more than quick enough ,
The seats i would assume are the same , maybe a bit more room in coupe from not having the seathoops behind ?
 
Hmmm....Dunno,i seemed to get the seat further back...

The 3.0 litre is ok and its nippy enough.....But the S54 is superb and suits the Z so well....You cant even compare the cars for acceleration...

On the flip side.....Everything seems half price give or take....£270 for tax and £244 to insure it....

I know what you mean , 911/911/645/Zc for me :( some would say ive gone in the opposite direction but in all honesty i never thrashed my previous weekenders . I just enjoy the ownership experience but have to admit i miss the noise of the flat six & the torque of the V8 :)
The downside was the high maintenance costs pro rata to my mileage so the 3.0Si more than suits my needs :driving:
 
I think this is possible, but only on a long continuous run at reasonable speeds.

My 03 3.0i convertable managed 465 miles on a euro road trip, this was sticking at 70mph though rather than 80mph and that was running it 40 miles on the red light (I knew how far Iit was to the next fuel stop).

My 08 coupe which I recently bought is slightly better on fuel (I think though the cold weather is not helping). The other day I had a business trip to Milton keynes traveling from Derby and back again, I was in no rush and was baing paid by the mile so just tootled along at 65mph the traffic was heavy so no point gunning it. At the end of the day I had done just over 200 miles and still had a 1/8th to go until half a tank.

But as soon as I get into an urban environment the MPG drops quickly and even taking it steady on a B road drops the MPG to low 30's.

Thus I think it is possible but it is boring and only possible on a long trip with no stops.

I currently do about 54 miles a day, (30 miles of which are A road), 10 miles city driving and 14 B roads, taking it steady I get 400 miles to a tank, taking it steady with at least one blast each trip I get 350 miles to a tank.

I found renewing my spark plugs on my old roadster helped a little (average 1mpg better) because at 7 years old the old ones were past their best.

I'd agree with that.

I wouldn't say it was a lot slower, but it's not the same 'bat s**t crazy' the M is. It definitely feels more nimble, due to the much lighter engine. The M handles far better though.

I agree the 3.0si is much easier to drive. The M is much more tiresome, I found... But when you're really driving it, it's better.
 
The tank was filled to the brim with Shell V Power. .......... :wink:
This helps the fuel consumption when you drive it sensibly
