5 speed v 6 speed

Certainly on the 3.2, 6th is an overdrive gear. It's there simply to improve fuel economy and also means less servicing due to lower revs, less wear. But in terms of performance, it's just dead weight. So on any variant defiantly worth having IMHO.

Indeed - prefacelift is the M54 post is the N52. Totally different. 3,000 rpm in my 3.0 Si Sport is just under 90 mph in 6th.

Hmmmmm I'm only getting a shade over 80 (no more than 82) at 3000 RPM in 6th... :(

Don't forget that wheel size, tyre profile & tyre wear can all affect the revs/speed.

That is a bit strange, but this topic has come up a couple of times and I've checked and checked again. Is yours a coupe ? The gearing is slightly different to the roadster's, but I wouldn't have thought it had that much effect.
