5 speaker stereo...

Hi,

Still learning about our Z4 Coupe, 10 days or so on from purchase.

It has the standard speakers - with the wee pockets behind each seat. The one behind the drivers seat is completely silent, but the other 5 that are meant to work, work.

Whats the most likely problem? Not particularly interested in upgrading the speakers - just want to get them working...

First thing I would do is remove the speaker cover, undo the 3 bolts and check the speaker is connected. Assuming it is I would then unbolt the passenger side and swap to the faulty one and see if it then works. If it is a dead speaker driver then I have a spare one you can have for free, just cover the postage.

Err... how! I read another post on here that seemed to say you have to remove everything from the centre console back to do that!?

Aha! Indeed I did remove them that way round, however I'm sure it is possible to remove them from the outside, I need to look at how they fit together. From memory it's a twisting action I think, I can check early next week for you. Worst case I have the covers spare in case it looks like you'll damage yours on removal.

Here's a picture of how it clips in on the back. Unfortunately I'm not near the centre console trim till next week to check the orientation that it fits (you'll need to know where the bigger clip is), but once you know that it would seem to be a simple job to prize it out. If you damage them I have these two which I no longer have any need for.
