5 days till z4 joy..

Hi guys,

Another newbie here. I've been driving a Honda Civic for 9 years and just about to get married so babies might be on the horizon - so decided it's 2 seater convertible time before that window of opportunity closes!

This weekend I put a deposit on a gorgeous 2006 3.0si sport roadster, and collecting next Saturday.

Very very excited, and have to thank folks on this forum - I've been lurking and getting a lot of education from all your posts that helped me in choosing and deciding.

Have to say the Z4 is the nicest car I have ever driven and the dealer knew right away he had a sale because I couldn't wipe the smile off my face!

One question I have not researched here quite yet - does anybody here purchase a warranty for their car? My new car comes with 6 months but I was tempted by the dealers 2 year offer... but then again it might be a total waste of money (if only I could find a fortune teller..)

Picture will come in due course :D

Great stuff.

Bullet proof if reasonably low miles, well serviced and cared for so 6 months will do, you can always buy a warranty thereafter.

I suppose it depends what warranty it is and what it covers and how much it costs.

I bought my Zed via BMW as an Authorised Used Car and it came with a year's warranty which I made use of but didn't renew it after that year.

Your major cost might be a roof motor which you can have replaced for £500-£600 if that goes - springs are relatively cheap to have replaced. . . . Like you said it's a bit of a lottery. I have a good specialist I rely upon and feel confidence with (much cheaper than the dealers) and that feels as good as a warranty to me. We shall see

:driving:

After a full week of barely any sleep I picked up up on Saturday and have had a grin on my face all week! ... been enjoying it too much to come back and post pics! And now it's raining ... but this is the only pic I haave and took it just for you :)

I'm very pleased - I actually bought a warranty with it as it was a good price and my previous car (2005 Honda Civic Sport) had quite a few issues and became a real pain. I'm hoping for stress free motoring in the Z4.. or at-least fun that makes up for any pains...

So far taken various people for drives in it, people say it's like a 'real sports-car' but feels safer and more luxurious.

Not without a few gripes:
Rear brake-light cracked but going back to dealer today,
My phone (nexus 5) wont connect to the bluetooth hands-free - my old iPhone 4 does though so atleast it's not the car.

Loving:
The smooth seemingly limitless power :)
Heated red leather seats.
Life in general with the car!

At the moment it lives on the street outside my house (parked ridiculously far from the kerb as in picture while I get use to it!)
I have a garage I have never put a car in but planning to put the zed into - already put the rear in to see the fit and it's DAMN tight - going to stick some foam to the walls and also planning to put some wood down as wheel guides to stop me steering to close to the walls, though I don't know how well this is going to work!

Glad you're enjoying your new purchase! Looks great and pleased to hear it will have a garage for a home.

Perhaps in the mean time and if it stops raining, protect the hood with a kit. Autoglym is very good but other people prefer Renovo.
The water should then bead off the top rather than saturate the fabric as it appears to be doing in the picture.

Look forward to hearing more about your Zed as you bond with it more!

Thanks for the tip, i was reading a little on roof care but wasn't sure if it's meant to run off or not! Hopefully I can sort that nicely.

Planning on taking some nice drives soon so will take my nice camera.

Spec summary - I think:
2006 3.0si roadster - Manual
I THINK the CDV has already been removed as it feels normal...
Red heated seats
OEM Wind deflector
Reverse parking sensors
Bog standard radio with 6 cd changer.
Multi-function M sport steering wheel.
Nice alloys.. maybe you can tell me what they are!
No run-flats
Cup holders!
Aux cable (installed behind hand-brake by previous owner)
Quite fond of my whippy aerial.

Thinking of doing the dashcam install I have seen on the forum but so far have an annoying cable hanging down!

Hi and welcome. Did you pair the iphone before the Nexus? If so it might be up to the limit of 5 devices. You will need to remove them all

To pair/unpair

Ign = 0, Press button 3 Sec, Ign = 1, Release Button after 3 seconds, press and hold pairing button again for 10 seconds to delete all pairings

Wheels are MV2's aka style 135. I would be changing them for 108's but that's just me.

Thanks I'lll give that a try later.

And yehh I absolutely love my wheels! Infact I've been looking for quite some time and checked out this Z4 as it has everything I wanted.. despite thinking red leather looked terrible (not having seen it for real yet) - can't believe how much I love the red leather now!

I will pick up some cleaning stuff and give it a treat!
