Now this would be interesting to drive with insane amounts of torque.

From the article:
The AC Schnitzer ACZ4 5.0d is a one-off vehicle based on the BMW Z4 sDrive 23i, but with a major change: instead of the standard gasoline engine, it features an M50d diesel unit – the same triple-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six that is used on the BMW M550d. The engine has been upgraded and fitted into the ACZ4 5.0d, with output and maximum torque figures increasing from 381PS (375hp) and 740Nm (546lb-ft) to 430PS (424hp) and 840Nm (619Nm).

Hope the suspension system was also modded. That much power on the standard set up would be scary IMHO having lost control on bends on the 35is on more than 2 occasions!

Cracker of zed though with eye-watering stats!

JC :D

I think the whopping 131kg in weight savings is equally impressive and interesting from a performance pov.
In most cars if you want to save thàt much weight, you'd have to get lexan windows etc etc. This is still a street useable car.

You can lose control in any high powered car. The Z4 chassis is pretty good at putting power to the ground considering it's only RWD.

I found premium tyres with a wider 265 profile help a lot. They've likely gone for 275 on that car.

Sound aside, doesn't it depends on how (and where) you intend to drive it?

In a city with traffic lights, low rev traction might give you a better burst of speed? Spirited run in a country lane might be more enjoyable with petrol of course.

As I use my e86 for daily drive into the city but live in a country side, I can appreciate both sides. Add I'm getting 28i (aka neo-diesel according to some :) ) I feel I need to defend the diesel!

Having said that, would I want to be seen driving a diesel? Absolutely not, regardless of how good it is. It's an image thing, same reason I discounted jaguar.

The majority of comments may be right, it's a diesel, it's got limited rev range, might sound a bit agricultural....

......but I'd still like to test drive it, just to find out what an 840Nm shove in the back feels like :P

If you haven't driven a modern diesel car I suggest you do so. They are very different from the old stinky motors. BMW and Audi have some of the nicest diesel sport sedans. Go for a test drive its addicting.

My wife's car is 2013 model 320d. Ok, not a sports diesel but bmw's 2l diesel is thought to be very decent.

It's an ok car, shifts ok, engine noise reasonable, but still, I wouldn't want it in my z4......

If you get a chance drive a 335d, it is a different beast.

Just my two penneth on the subject. I have no issue with diesel cars, they serve a purpose but i just cant understand why anyone would buy a diesel sports car?. Audi have gone down that route with the TT and Merc with the SLK. If i buy a sports car i want it to sound and drive like a sports car not like a tractor. I admire the time, effort and skill of the team that have produced this one off Z4 but it would'nt be for me if I had the money despite its monster output figures. £81k would get me a brand spanking top spec F-Type Jag for instance. I know what would end up on my drive ! :driving:
