Personally I don't get it, trying to pretend to be something it clearly isn't, but each to their own I guess

Oh dear, not another thread about misuse of the M badge :slaphead:

Sadly, even BMW don't mind, and are happy to punt out AUC Z4s with ///M badges on.

Personally, I couldn't give a hoot. For those who don't know, they won't care. For those who do know, it's obviously not an ///M

On the other end of the spectrum I used to see a badged "520d" touring with quad pipes, front wing vents and what sounded distinctly like a V10

It wouldn't be so bad if the z4m had a bespoke m badge like the m3 and others as most people will just think the M is just another m sport or idiot who's put an m badge on the car :/

On another note. Is it just me or do the black headlights fitted to the 2.5 and below look sooo much better than the silvers?

Sometimes it's ignorance. . .my first Zed was a 2.0i Sport which had ///M badges on the rear and sides. I was told and could see it had //M sport seats, wheels and steering wheel was told it had ///M sport suspension and was all but told it was an ///M sport version of the 2.0 litre. T'was only later I became aware of the Z4M. . .but I liked the badges (much preferred them to the large chrome Z4 badge on the rear (which it replaced) and the chrome numbers on the wings - which the badges replaced).

I was also told that the car was delivered with this badging as an option when new.

Loved that Zed and I've always thought the 2.0 litre version is under-rated - I found it fabulous fun being able to exploit it's full performance on the road - ///M optioned especially!

:driving:

Exactly.
The letter 'm' only has some mythical status around the most dedicated of the car groupies.
The rest of the world only see a german convertible and think of 'm' as something out of a Bond movie

I agree, and I'm not just saying that because mine has them

At one stage I couldn't really understand why people did it but I now agree that BMW are happy to have M badges on the wings of pretty much all M sport cars from new & I was in my local dealer earlier in the week & the M badge is there for all to see on the sides of the M sport cars.

Its each to their own I agree.
