3rd Brake Light

Finally getting down the list of niggles to sort out on my Z4, I need a new third brake light as mine is cracked.

I don't really fancy paying £80+ from BMW when there's a chance it will just crack again so what's the best aftermarket one to purchase? Has anyone purchased the ones on eBay and if so what's the fit like?

Noticed the eBay ones don't come with a seal, if I purchased a new rubber gasket does it simply fit straight onto the light or will I need to mess around disassembling it?

Take a look through these threads. :)

Hi CryptoWhale,
In April 2019 (and about 15,000 miles ago) I replaced my 3rd brake light which had also cracked down the middle. I got the new part off ebay for £24 from a trader called Auto-fashion based in China. Ordered 22/04/19, received 30/04/19. Item seemed to me to be indistinguishable from the original (apart from the crack of course) and was a perfect fit. Apart from the fact that the edges don't quite :) lie flush with the boot lid although it's hardly noticable. I wonder whether people overtighten the screws to try to get the light fitting to lie flush and this strains the unit which then eventually splits. Anyway, mine still works and so I would recommend Auto-fashion's item.

I also replaced mine with the same, from Auto Fashion, China. That was a couple of years ago and like yours Rob its not absolute perfection fitting wise but it is still working perfectly and not cracked no matter how hard the boot lid gets slammed.

I tried a chinese one but it was way out. Fitted a genuine one and it also seemed out, but to a lesser degree, so I overtightened it to compensate. Works a treat.

It's been on a while now so may have formed into a flusher fit, so will back the screws off a tad and see if it leaks or not.
