3L e46 engine.

Did BMW do 5.0 version of the Z3 to order ???? seem to remember seeing it on Autotrader

That must put a permanent grin on yer face, just been reading some more, Hartge does 5.0 not BMW direct. Same idea as was Wiesmann cars, they had various versions of it available, sadly gone now.

Thomas Zurawski from Zurawski motorsport in Gloucester has done a lot of BMW V8 swaps his work is extremely good.

If I was doing one and not doing it myself. He would be the guy i would speak to.

Interesting, i might look up the guy.

Someone looking for a V10 conversion? Tell them don’t do it, their journey will be filled with pain and heartache. Bank balance will also take a hard hit!
That’s the bad news, on the up side of things tho every journey in it will be an event believe me. A fully derestricted S85 V10 engine will shock you no matter what speed your doing. I personally have never felt anything so responsive and sharp to throttle inputs. The only problem I have with it is my driving style, no matter where you are you end up being a hooligan! Probably because it’s so addictive, more so for the sound than overall speed.
I’m hoping for a good year weather wise so I can get out and enjoy it, bugger the fuel costs. We’re only here for a short time👍80B58FFC-F9F9-4D88-BFF2-8A9E7517435A.jpg

The pictures didn't work for some reason @Stevie.w

I think this site needs a bit of a tech upgrade, it's pretty dated now.

Got to agree i haven’t engine swapped. But i am doing something not done very often. And the time and money are huge factors.
It’s a real emotional roller coaster and big car mod. Unless you’re buying off the shelf tried and tested kits. The cost and man hours can’t really be guessed at I am at least twice over on both.

Managed to get my head round it👍

That is pure insanity!

That combo has to make it one of the best modded cars of all time. Does the engine overheat a lot as I can't see any additional radiators!?

I can't even imagine what the insurance would be like. I remember when I had an old seat and i boosted the horsepower by +20% and most insurance companies didn't even want to speak to me. So god knows what it's like when you more than double it!?!?

I'm guessing your a mechanic of some kind or at least have a serious history with BMW!?

People have said there’s a bit of insanity in me😊. I’m quite humbled by members reactions to the Z4, in all honesty the car drives very factory like and you can drive it in 6th from 1000rpm and it just pulls cleanly. Heating wise it runs a complete M5 rads and has never been an issue. I’m a hydraulic technician/ engineer and never seem to get fazed by the challenges I set myself, just knuckle down and find solutions.
I specialise in Engine builds for all manor of vehicles.

[ref]Stevie.w[/ref], do you ever build and sell (sadly I don't have the money to buy)? Just out of interest. Because I'm sure there is a market somewhere for that.

Especially with the fanboy cars e.g. M3, S2000's etc

What do you think it weighs now (dry) just out of interest?

I’ve built cars for customers, I had my own garage up till October last year but shut it down as it was being demolished. I’m opening another unit in May but keeping it very low key, but I wouldn’t dismiss doing project builds.
The original Z4 3.0 SE weighed 1385kgs on my old weigh bridge, with V10 installed 1420kgs.

That's insane.

1420kg is pretty light for most super cars these days, so that's quite impressive. From what I remember I think the Z4M is ~1600kg so that's even lighter than the old stock. Crazy.

On a side topic. If my N52 goes bang (please don't) and I needed a new one to keep the old girl going. (3L SI Sport). If you were to put a very rough ballpark to get that replaced with another motor (second hand) for supply and fit. What would you say the very very rough cost would be for that?

No worries if not possible, as I guess the task is hard, but I'm just wondering and I want to keep my zed going for as long as possible.

On that same note, what would be an economical way of putting a more powerful engine in (ideally BMW) e.g. M3 engine / V10 / other v6 bmw engines?

Just playing with ideas here, but of all guys you seem like the one to ask hahaha :D

I pop in now and again but life just seems to be running away at present. I’m hoping to get to some events this year as my son’s and I aren’t heading down the Alps this summer. Quite liking the run 25 March at Moffatt, it’s fairly local and fuel costs won’t be to horrendous.
Your so right when it’s on full chat it’s a bit of a shocker.
