3D Copy Scanner

WOW, that's impressive... What I don't get is how they get the machine to make a fully working version with ho assembly? From how I understand it the scammer scans around the device... how does it scan the parts that it hasn't got line of sight to? i.e. it must have known the adjustable part of the wrench was adjustable, but how could it tell?
 
The Scanning is very intersting till like you say a component with alot of inside detail. The staggered Protrusion would be harder to make as you can measure the inside centre.

We do rapid prototyping where the component is grown out of plastic using a 3d cad part drawing...... Its pretty good but to be honest with that broken part put together why cant they just use it for sand casting striaght away?
