35W to 55W HID's upgrade worth it?

Mostly Holland. Sometimes UK.
Reading lots of conflicting posts and threads here about the pros and cons of upgrading to 55W HID's.

Anyone done it and NOT encountered any issues such as fried reflector bowls? Malfunctions? Fires?? :o

I recently polished my headlight lenses and that made such an improvement to the light output but I'd be interested in exploring if they can go brighter if feasible, especially now the dark winter days and nights are drawing in....

Wow, massively underdone. I remember seeing capri's with a similar front end so not without some precedent

I have a surplus hid conversion set for H7 bulbs 35w unused and still in box and original wrappers.
The story is I purchased a kit for our X3 and was well impressed with no problems in 2 years of use so I purchased a kit for my Z4. This has now sat in the garage for 2 years as my plans changed. The kit is from Autobulbs of Southampton --- H7 HIDS4U Stealth 35W Xenon HID Conversion Kit and currently sells at £50 Yours for £25 if you want them - just pm me

Thx but I already have 35W HID’s. My question is whether upgrading to 55W is worth it.

Suggest you post them on the FS section.

It depends: if you want shorter Xenon bulb life and burnt reflector bowls inside your projector housing, which eventually will permanently make your performance worse than where you started, then go for it!

If you want more performance but you don't want to fry your projectors and housing and you have OEM HIDs: look into either Osram Nightbreaker D2S or Philips Xtreme Vision D2S bulbs. They're pricey but you'd be getting the maximum performance out of OEM HIDs by a reputable manufacture and it won't start a fire or fry anything!

What colour? Standard or X version?

As I understand it the primary reason 35w bulbs are fitted is there is a max lumen limit set under construction regulations..

The 55w bulbs exceed that limit..

Does have any real evidence that 55w bulbs would damage the enclosures?
