Just grind off the old ones (spot welded I think) and attach these.

Is this sapphire black do you know? It looks amazing, or is it some fancy filter on the camera? I doubt mine would look like this without some messing with the picture. I'm assuming it's not your car right?

Anyway keep the updates coming, looking forward to seeing yours finished, should look great, liking the tailpipe idea, standard ones are shite aren't they.

Yes the detail on the car let's it down really. The crap matte effect silver on the hoops, wing mirrors etc, halfords special, and those terrible pipes. No idea what they were thinking ... Not to mention the diffuser in that rough unpainted black...

Still, all easily sorted!

Hello

Well done for posting this thread, I am sure that most 35is owners have similar thoughts about the exhaust trims etc and the matt silver mirrors .. all down to personal choice I suppose

But again great thread, look forward to your final pictures

Cheers !

Today we have progress on the brakes. The rusty brake components were cleaned using electrolysis, which brings them back to new condition without so much hard work. Smarter, not harder, and all that!

Car was plastic wrapped for the next part of the arch/suspension/brake cleaning to stop any mess on the newly polished surfaces

Great thread and of interest as I am thinking of switching to a 35iS and the exhaust is the big let down for me. Why didn't they do the wheel areas before the body work?

I think because of resources, they have different guys working on the car concurrently, up to 3. The guys who are doing the detailing needed to get the car done ASAP and we were waiting on parts from BMW. The car needs to have the ceramic protection added and this can take 2 days, multiple layers, etc, so the paint couldn't wait.

By the way, all the badges generally suffer from wear and tear and look crap after a year or two. They are expensive as hell to replace too. We are putting clear coat on all of the good ones to protect them from further damage and replaced the bonnet one at great expense (custom to the Z4... :x )

Brakes are ready for paint

Sneak peak of another couple of cars I'm sharing the workshop with

Can you guess what this one is? It has been sent over by Abbey motorsports for a full nut and bolt restoration.

My missus has her 'tash removed using electrolysis, no wonder her lip is a bit red when she gets in!

Did you consider a BBK out of interest? It's one thing I think is sorely lacking on both the 35 models.

Nope , because imho it's too much money for "bling". The OEM discs on the 35iS are massive (Front (348mm) and rear (324mm)), but I will look to upgrade the pads (StopTech or another top brand), change the fluid (not sure if it's dot 5.1, but will upgrade if not), and HEL Performance braided hoses.

I'm having the calipers "tarted" up so they should look decent.

My money will go on an Quaife LSD, H&R springs, supersprint x-pipe and a much better FMIC before any further mods. The one gripe with the current FMIC is that intake temps rise very quickly after some spirited use. It's the first mod recommended by the N54 tuners.

No sorry...

The ones on the car...The pipe outlet size on the backboxes

No idea really, but this X6 pipe has brackets on the inside which means it should spot weld on to the old pipe. It won't be fitting on like a glove, but I think they can manage.

Ah....

I was thinking of you had the outer diameter figure that there maybe other alternatives to the X6 pipes ?

Will find out how they get on tomorrow to see if its a pain in the butt job or not. They cost quite a bit and seem very well made, plus I'm keen to keep as much BMW parts on as possible and only replace where better after market is available. Keeps the theme going too
