35is odd issue

Hmm, i have an odd issue that I need some thoughts on please.

My car was normal at the weekend. Fast motorway driving in 30 deg heat. I stopped for 10 mins at a motorway services, then set off again. As i accelerated, a message saying 'reduced engine power' and got a half engine symbol. Car goes to low power limp mode.

I exited the motorway, turn car off and back on. All now normal. Car drives fine, turbos working, but I now have a more throaty exhaust note.

Thoughts?

I will take to bmw this week, but thier normal stock response is 'we cant find anything wrong, its all normal.' - It doesn't quite sound as it did.

Thanks for the replies.

No, its always open as i've done the golf tee mod years back (since the flap rattles).

This is a deeper growl. Sounds ok, but somethings changed/probaby wrong.

Maybe something to do with temperature outside that day ? Did you check your oil temp when that happened ? I was reading somewhere that when your temperature go to certain level car will go to 'limp mode' to cool down..

So maybe others can also comment what is their ussual temperature. My howering around 120 but when driving spirited can go over 125 ... (35i DCT)

I don't have an E89, but the only time my E86 went into "limp" mode was when the electric water pump died. :(

Sad day, expensive fix!

I hope your problem is simpler, but you could do with finding someone with a code reader before you head anywhere for repair.

Hi, I have heard of the reduced power situation when the DCT box gets hot, but returns to normal when it cools. I believe there is a bigger cooler fix for that one, especially if track days are to be enjoyed.

A "different" noise could actually be induction instead of exhaust ?

Pipe/cooler split or become detached ?

Yep but you get that specific message 'transmission overheat' or similar :)
