35is new photos

Thanks very much chaps. Tough choice on the wheels but the 296's have always been a favourite. Don't regret picking them.

The wife rents a barn office at Pilsley off the estate costing 16k a year so I reckon a quick pic off the main drag wouldn't hurt Grumpyowl.. :wink:
 
Great looking car, e89 looks awesome in black you you chose the best wheels. They look classy and not blingy as some of them do. :thumbsup:
 
I agree the 296's do look great but the early ones had problems with cracks on the run flats (as did other styles). Check my 326m's regularly and no problems so far and the recent compound changes on Bridgestone RF's has helped. I'll be interested how they go as would defenetly have them on mine. Great pics!

This is my problem with most wheels for the Z4... they look like bling rather than something more sophisticated & subtle.

Which wheels have you got tecathy?

Interesting point on the run flats obs-com, when did they change the compound out of interest?
 
I'm running standard 18" right now but that's because I didn't like any of the optional items. Struggling to find a wheel I like right now.

There were a lot of issues when RF's became more common accross the range (06/07 onwards), particularly on the lower profile tyres where cracks were common on different wheel styles. BMW used different tyre providers though Bridgestone was the main provider of RF's. Because of my concerns about cracks (I'd had problems with my 2007 E93 on RF's) when I bought my first E89, I looked into the matter with a senior technician I know from BMW and recall reading some stuff a while ago as well.

My understanding is that Brdgestone did a lot of development work on their RF's and from 2011 onwards different compounds were introduced that absorbed more of the energy into the sidewall but still retained the sidewall rigidity in case of puncture. This meant that cracks were less likely and there was a better ride from the tyres.

Had my first E89 23i from Sept 11 till April 14 when I changed to my 35is. Both on 326m wheels and no problems regarding cracks. However, the ride on the Bridgestones is noticeably better and more comfortable in comfort mode in the 35is due to the Adaptive Suspension which may mean the 35is is even less likely to experience problems with cracks? I'll be happy to replace with Bridgestone RF's when required.

My 1er came on the newer 'soft' RFT tyres. I'll admit that without referencing a non-RFT tyre they're no where near as bad as I was expecting. However just before I sold my car back to the dealership I had the OE RFT tyres put back on. Coming back from the fitting place I literally pulled over to check what was broken! :o It also started skipping over bumps etc that it'd previously just soaked up. I'll be swapping to non-RTF tyres when I've chosen my new wheels
