35iS - 100K miles. Which oil, please?

Why not just stick with what BMW specified?

My 330i has done 125K now and I still use 5W/30 LL04 in it, albeit that has an N52 engine. Unless there is some specific issue with the N54?

My car is a 30i rather than a 35is, so I was waiting for someone who has tried out the alternatives on the N54.
For the 30i, like @mrtidy, I'm using 5W30 fully synthetic, compliant with BMW LL04. I am babying it, about 4,000-5,000 miles
between changes (current annual mileage).

Higher viscosity oil seems to be recommended by several people for higher mileage engines (e.g. 0W40 or 10W40 - the first
number is winter performance, at -25C, 10W is probably fine in the UK). Make sure it's fully synthetic. Mobil 1 seems to get a good press. Some of the engines seem to use quite a lot of oil as they age, so keep an eye on the oil level!

Unless your burning a lot stick with BMW spec, 5-30....... you could move to 5-40 which might mean it’s a bit “thicker” when hot or stay in grade better. I’d stick with 5w to ensure good quick circulation on cold start up, when most wear is caused. Unless your tracking it there’s little point changing it at silly short intervals if it’s fully synthetic.
