35i

Just trying to search for 35i manuals to see if the values are holding strong and on eBay and autotrader can’t find one!
I’m either doing something wrong or they have gone into hibernation over winter…

I think the problem is there have never been that many of them.

Trying to assess market values by asking prices on eBay or Autotrader is a dangerous game these days. Asking prices and selling prices can be worlds apart IME.

I spend a lot of time looking at car selling sites (for all sorts). Prices are all over the place. Gone are the days when you took a dealer's price, reduce it by 10% to give a true value of your car. It just isn't like that anymore.

No E89 is holding its value unless it’s very niche and desirable for specfic reasons like very low mileage , one owner etc…

I’ve advised a few buyers over the last few months…a couple of people have paid way over the current rate but the car ticked very specific boxes..

As Pondrew says prices are all over the place with at least a 2:1 spread between those selling and the day dreamers / exploiters..

FWIW I never believed there was a premium for a N54 manual E89

I’d definetly say there would be a slight premium but maybe it’s only people of my general age and driving style possibly…
Like I’d always say myself when asked what layout a sports car should be I’d always say a six pot, Rwd, Manual everytime, I get the auto box is a great box and I guess if I gave up having too much fun with the extra control and feedback the manual system gives me and if it’s wasn’t my fun car and a daily then yeah maybe the auto box would be an option…
Another 15 years time and that most preferred set up I’m sure will be very sought after. I got lucky I guess paid 9k for mine nearly a year ago with 50k miles on.
I’m sure I could have sold it for at least 10 but that’s not my plan. Just can be reassuring to know that values may hold a bit as over the years the amount of devaluation I’ve taken on cars is crazy 😂

Yeah agreed, mines 55k miles on a 13 plate, Red, has lots of the options its M kit, had to have cruise control which is has, only option that I’ve noticed it hasn’t got is the heated wheel but I wasn’t bothered on that. Probably lots more options I’ve missed but the M kit and crusie were the ones I had to have…
Would like to think It would be worth 10k so I’m still
ahead of what I paid…
Previous 3 motors I paid 10 ish for were like 8 the next year 😂

Well..on the grounds of such serious decline in values on E89s over the last few years one argument is surely they can't decline at this rate..elsewhere (US and Europe) prices are much stronger on E89s..I guess the UK has moved over to Chinese electric and other's SUV!

My 35is is now officially worth about a 1/3 what it was in 2021..

It's going out as my Viking long ship with me!-:)

Ouch that is it hit…maybe I got lucky and hit the dip 😂. My max tbh is always around 10 for a car as that’s then the most I can lose…
Did consider an Aston for 30 but I’m sure I’d have crashed the market if I did and wake up a week later with it worth 20, big end rattle and slipping clutch 😂

Has your 35is really dropped that much in value!? Bloody hell...

Okay, my shock has been diminished slightly, as I thought you were referring to the private seller/buyer market. 🥸
Prices for real sales privately are about 50% ish of what they were in 2021..

Yup…WBAC was £16k now £5k
WBAC are not a good yardstick for cars of this age, or type, though. Motorway probably won't even quote for them anymore.

I had a very interesting conversation recently with the chap who runs our local WBAC Portakabin (I had to flog a dodgy old Mini to them). He said there are specific cars they 'want' and many they don't. The ones they want changes daily, depending on what is selling well through the auctions and the numbers of a given car they are dealing with at any one time. I presume WBAC's computer system is linked directly to BCA's so it can pick up nuances in markets instantly.

One thing he said that I had never thought of was to never sell a car to WBAC in the weeks leading up to March and September, as this is when millions of leased cars are returned and flood the auctions, so driving prices down for anything else.

WBAC can’t do “non-ordinary”. I have a concours condition Honda Nsx with 14000 miles up. Its agreed value insurance is six figures. They offered me £6296. They keep on trying to make me go to didcot to drop it off!

I think low miles well looked after mint e89s will always sell for a premium but that the actual price achieved is likely to be quite low in comparison to what we believe to be the cars desirability. The market is shrinking and will only be a) enthusiasts looking for a cheap daily to goon about in until it dies (see much of the E85 market) or b) moneyed enthusiasts who want a nice are for weekends. The car’s original market (hairdresser car, second car for wife - sorry for the stereotypes but it’s basically true) has long gone on to whatever is now fashionable.

My sister lives in Brightwell Cum Sotwell, so if you wanted to drop it off, I could pick it up from there for you! :p

Shoutout to the hairdressers of the world, they have great taste in cars.
