35i Service pads/fluid/oil etc

Hi all,

The Z4 goes in for its service this month and I was hoping for a bit of input from you guys on my choices below for service items and whether there is anything else I should consider.

Car History:
59 plate 35i DCT, adaptive M-sport suspension, remap to 370bhp, and feels just a tad underbraked (though the front brakepads are due to be replaced, and it only felt underbraked with a full car at Christmas). I'm toying with the idea of uprating the brake hoses, fluid, and pads for slightly better stopping power without going down a very expensive BBK route but haven't put enough research in yet.
The car is my daily driver and will be doing spirited road driving at most, no track. I've had it for 6 faultless months and want to keep it that way. It has done 63k miles and will be going to a reputable BMW indy (Darren Wood, Stockport).

Jun 2011 - BMW @ 13860miles - Brake fluid/oil/air filter
Jun 2013 - BMW @ 25330miles - Vehicle check/brake fluid/mobility system/oil
Jul 2014 - BMW @ 28150miles - Vehicle check
Jun 2015 - BMW @ 31880miles - Brake fluid/oil/micro-filter
Sep 2016 - BMW @ 41410miles - Rear brakes
May 2017 - DW///M Indy @ 52470miles - Vehicle check/brake fluid/oil/spark plugs/micro-filter/air-cleaner element (cleaned)

Jan 2019 - Darren Wood @ 62000miles - Vehicle check/Front brakes/brake fluid/oil

Service Components for N54B30, E89 35i:

Air Filter - MANN-FILTER Air Filter (C36 004) (I have a K&N filter (33-2367) that won't need replacing, just cleaning, but thought I'd spec an air filter for others that may find it useful)
Cabin Filter - MANN-FILTER Cabin Filter (CUK 2339) (same for all E89)
Oil Filter - MANN-FILTER Oil Filter (HU 816 x)
Oil - Castrol Edge 0W-30 (From Mobil's website it would be Mobil Super 3000 XE 5W-30, 6.5l total)
Brake Fluid - ATE DOT 4 TYP 200 (Castrol React SRF is apprently the best, but double the cost and will only make a difference on track)
Brake Pad (F) - EBC Red stuff DP32006C / Hawk Performance HPS 5.0 HB534B.750 / Pagid T2029 / Akebono EUR918 / Mintex MDB3133 / ATE non-ceramic 13.0460-7238.2 / ATE ceramic 13.0470-7238.2 / Stop Tech Street 309.09181

Spark Plugs - Bosch ZGR6STE2 (I stuck with regular OEM spark plugs as I've not noticed any pre-ignition with 370hp, for more info look at spark plugs source)

Other Consumables:
Wiper Blades - Bosch Aerotwin flat (AR22U Drivers, AR20U Passengers)
Gearbox Oil - Don't F'in touch it for the DCT! According to a horror story in the sources.

Regarding the brake, I'm hoping that upgrading the pads and fluid will make a big difference, but considering braided brake hoses/lines as they're not a big expense (£25-30 for a front pair). Goodridge do a kit, and HEL will allow you build a custom one so I'd get them to design it.

On the subject of brakes, have you seen what I did with mine?

That'd answer any concerns of underbraking and uses all BMW parts so no problems with maintenance going forward or questions over quality. It didn't work out too expensive in the scheme of big brake kits, one chap PM'd me and I worked it out to just over £1000 all in.

As for other service parts, Mann are the OE supplier for filters so I'd stick with them, then Castrol for oil. Bosch spark plugs are what I went with too I believe.
 
Out of interest, why use Darren Wood over Williams BMW?

Last quote I had from Darren Wood, they were more expensive than Williams.

Oh man those calipers look awesome! I am only getting a slight feeling of being underbraked though, and think I may get away with slightly uprated pads and fluid for the minimal outlay. Though I know full well if I end up with a spare £1000 then I'd definitely be going down this route.

Regarding Darren Wood, I used him a few years ago for my Z3 and the price wasn't too bad, I'm not sure whether things have changed since then or not. Do you know of any other reputable independent specialists in/around Manchester? I'm happy to travel a bit for a good service, but don't want to pay main stealer prices for an inspection and oil & pad change to be honest.

Darren Wood were the same price as the dealer when using their components, but they allowed me to supply my own service items and the price was very reasonable.

As an update I have ordered the Stop Tech Street 309.10610 pads for the front from Rockauto.com, significantly cheaper than going elsewhere for any other OEM+ pad. Nearly half the price of EBC redstuff and recommended by all the Americans on the 335i (same calipers and pads).

For oil, pagid pad sensors, and wipers I took advantage of a 45% off code from Eurocarparts. I'll probably upgrade brake hoses and fluid next year at the same time.
 
As a further update, the pads didn't fit :headbang: I checked, triple checked, and cross referenced with different sites to make sure my information was correct and yet the technician said they didn't fit. I'm a bit peeved as the garage ordered new pads and discs without asking me first, meaning I didn't get a chance to look at alternatives/order the wrong pads again. £500 for front discs, pads, oil filter, oil change. :cry:
 
I always thought they had to get authorisation for the replacement of parts :?

You could always fit some uprated pads / double check the pads you bought and keep the old ones as spares or flog them on here. Hopefully they’ll feel much better than the old worn out ones.
 
I found my problem. Stoptech are an American company.

The 30i and the 35i have the same size front brakes FOR US CARS ONLY (330x24). The 35iS in America has bigger pads and calipers (348x30).
The European 35i and 35iS have the same size brakes (348x30).

So when I went through their American catalogue for my European 35i, I didn't realise that I should have been looking for the American 35iS calipers. D'oh!

Guess I'd better put these up on the sales thread. They will fit the 28i and 30i to fit (330x24). Stoptech Street 309.10610.
