35i Exhaust

Hi guys

I’m sure this will have come up before but could do with some advice on best options for getting a ‘throatier’ exhaust sound from my 35i. Do I go the whole hog and replace the system with something completely new if so what ? Or are there other options ? I’ve read about cat removal, remaps etc ?

Basically could do with some sound advice or to hear about what you guys have done - what you spent, what results you got etc

Thanks !

Hi, it’s possible to alter the operation of the exhaust valves in the rear silencers mechanically or by coding them to open at different throttle openings/loads/gears etc

Whats the deal with catless as its something im thinking of doing myself but hear mixed reviews, im assuming If the cars nice and warm it will pass MOT's ? literally the only concern as they do sound a lot better

Hi O.P.
If you decide to go the whole system route
Have a look on you tube for eisenmann e89 3.5i
There is some good footage, I’ve had on fitted for about a month now, had one on my e85 3.0 before too
But before you go spending lots of cash , try the golf tee mod , it does make a bit of difference, it might be enough to keep you smiling and doesn’t cost anything, if you’re local to Essex, I’ll pop and see you so you can hear mine before committing to something that expensive 👍

Not been through an MOT yet but others have passed without any issues.

Nice. Is that the race or street system Dave..? Any drone..?

Mine has a Miltek system on it, front cats still on but middle cats deleted, sounds mega, but if I'm right Miltek no longer do one for the 35i for some reason. This is quite strange as some people say that it's the best sounding system too.

Hi john
I went with the race , I personally don’t think it has any drone. It might not be for everyone, I think exhaust notes a a very personal thing, I absolutely loved the eisenmann on my e85 , this is even better 😃 I took a fair bit of stick over the purchase of this from Eileen, we were out in the car for a bit of lunch yesterday and she actually commented on how nice it sounds.... she still doesn’t know EXACTLY how much I spent on it though 😬

Thanks Dave.

What makes you say it might not be for everyone? Do you mean how loud it is or the actual tone?

I NEVER say how much things are either.... The current M I’ve got I didn’t say anything and the wife thinks it cost the same as a previous E85 I had for 3k as it looks the same to her.......

Tell ‘em nowt unless held down by your throat....

Hi john
I mean the actual note of the exhaust, it make me smile big time( so I guess that’s all that matters) Eileen got her own back a few days back, she mentioned about getting a new cooker , I told her the one we have is still perfectly adequate and we really don’t NEED one .... her reply was ..... so a bit like your exhaust then .... guess I walked into that :tumbleweed:

Hi jollyjoiner
How long ago did you have the miltec fitted?
Wondering why they stopped making them , not head any footage of one , sure it sounds awesome, was it compatible in price with my eisenmann?

I've got a 35is exhaust ready to put onto my 30i M Sport, wondering if it'll be loud enough though or if i should go Eisenmann race....

Thanks very much for that Dave.

I’ve heard Jollyjoiners car and it sounds awesome, really nice note to it, much better than my 35is standard pipe with the vacuum pipe removed.

Personally unless you want a pretty quiet system but with a nice gentle burble than I’d look elsewhere gwatson, I’m no hooligan but I’m going to change my 35is system, it’s too conservative.

I got the car August last year and it already had the exhaust on it. I believe they used to be around the £1200 Mark from what I'd heard

Oh ok
Mine was a few hundred more than that, but I bet if you’re one was still being produced, they wouldn’t be miles apart on price, be interested to listen to the two two side by side if we ever get the chance 👍

Thanks for the insight. I must admit when I test drove a 35is I did think it would quite quiet (despite being 10db louder than the 35i), however turbo cars are always quieter anyway, so was hoping it could be a good combo on the NA engine... it is a gamble though as you need quite a bit of hardware to get it working, new diffuser, heat shields etc

I used to have a Stromung exhaust on my Z4M and that was absolutely perfect.

For anyone considering an aftermarket exhaust you should first try catless downpipes. They make the stock exhaust deeper and louder with the added benefit of increasing power and reducing turbo spool time.

It's also a lot cheaper than replacing the cat back portion of the exhaust.

I thought you were selling it?
Changing the exhaust could possibly limit your market.
